Some may think of Jay Leno as only a comedian, but he is also a well-known car collector and expert. Aficionados have followed Leno and his car collection for years on his television show called Jay Leno’s Garage. His YouTube channel has nearly four million subscribers. That kind of expertise and following means he has access to virtually every vehicle produced. When Leno ordered his 2025 Mustang GTD, he was granted the twelfth vehicle built. Ford CEO Jim Farley was there when Leno took possession of the legendary Mustang supercar.
2025 Ford Mustang GTD
The 2025 Mustang GTD, which starts around $325,000, is the ultimate Mustang. It comes standard with the performance package, so it is incredibly fast and powerful. It features carbon fiber aerodynamic parts on the car’s exterior. It even has the word “MUSTANG” printed on the underside of the rear wing.
The GTD sets a new performance bar with 815 horsepower, 664 pound-feet of torque and a top speed of 202 miles per hour, the most of any street-legal Mustang ever.
Leno and Ford CEO Jim Farley talk at length about the Mustang GTD being the first car from an American brand to lap the famed Nürburgring in less than 7 minutes. Leno waited a year and a half to get his Mustang. Leno apparently likes the number 12 and points of that his Ford GT is also the 12th car the company produced in that supercar line.
Leno and Farley Out on the Road
Jay makes it clear that he is letting the car settle before testing its limits. He says he usually gives vehicles 250 miles before he really pushes it. As they are out driving, Leno says laughs that anyone testing the car on a public road “is going to jail” because it is so powerful. They also point out the special window in the rear seat of the GTD that lets passengers see the suspension as the car is driving. Farley says he really liked the idea of letting owners see how the car is really performing.

Leno says his favorite thing about Ford is, “They aren’t afraid to put their name on an expensive car.” He and Farley also talked about the great care Ford took in bolting the GTD’s spoiler to the “C” pillar, giving the car extra downforce and performance.
Leno added, “As much as I like the outside of the car, you are really paying for the chassis and the performance.” Leno and Farley go back to the Porsche comparisons several times and Leno says the Mustang GTD really outdoes the supercars. Leno loves that the GTD is a Mustang at its core with all of the speed and performance of a supercar.
Best of all, Leno promises a follow up after the GTD’s break-in period.
