The Most Comfortable SUVs of 2025 Recommended by Consumer Reports

If comfort is your top priority, these SUVs recommended by Consumer Reports automotive experts focus on the four qualities shoppers should consider before making a final buying decision:

  1. Controls you don’t have to fight with.
  2. Clear sightlines to avoid any incidences of minor or major accidents.
  3. Passenger-friendly back seats.
  4. Quiet cabins that make long drives a relaxing experience.

We’ve identified four categories where deal-breaking flaws can make a buyer regret a purchase.

However, there’s more to their choices than comfort.

All of them are recommended, meaning they scored well in our road tests, have good reliability, have key active safety features, and did well in crash tests.

That said, here is an abbreviated summary of CR’s Most Comfortable SUVs of 2025:

BEST USABILITY AND CONTROLS

Honda HR-V (2025)

Price: $25,400 – $31,000 | MPG: 27 overall

The HR-V shines with straightforward knobs and buttons borrowed from the Civic, making climate and infotainment controls intuitive. Even the smaller 7-inch screen is easy to use, though higher trims add a 9-inch version. A minor annoyance is the heated seat button tucked behind the steering wheel rim.

Other solid picks: Kia Seltos, Hyundai Kona, Subaru Crosstrek

Skip these: Mercedes-Benz GLA/GLB, Volvo XC40

Honda CR-V (2025)

Price: $30,100 – $50,000 | MPG: 26 overall

Controls in the CR-V EX are simple and tactile, with a user-friendly 7-inch screen. The upgraded 9-inch version drops the tuning knob, which we miss. A few controls—like the ignition button—feel oddly placed, but usability remains strong overall.

Other solid picks: Nissan Rogue, Hyundai Tucson, Subaru Forester

Skip these: Genesis GV70, VW ID.4, Land Rover Evoque

Honda Pilot (2025)

Price: $40,200 – $54,580 | MPG: 21 overall

The Pilot’s large climate knobs click with satisfying feedback, and its 9-inch touchscreen is both responsive and customizable. The only frustration is with syncing climate zones, which can unintentionally reactivate the rear system.

Other solid picks: Nissan Pathfinder, Subaru Ascent

Skip these: Tesla Model X, Mercedes-Benz GLE/GLS

BEST VISIBILITY

BMW X1 (2025)

Price: $41,350 – $50,800 | MPG: 28 overall

A low dash, tall windshield, and expansive glass give the X1 a clear outward view. However, thick roof pillars and oversized mirrors create blind spots that drivers will need to work around.

Other solid picks: Subaru Crosstrek, Toyota Corolla Cross

Skip this: Mazda CX-30

Subaru Forester (2025)

Price: $29,995 – $43,295 | MPG: 29 overall

The Forester is an industry standout for outward visibility. Slim roof pillars, big side windows, and a large rear window make it easy to see in all directions. It’s one of the best SUVs for confident city and highway driving alike.

Other solid picks: Honda CR-V, Toyota RAV4

Skip these: Kia EV6, Alfa Romeo Tonale, Dodge Hornet

Subaru Outback (2025)

Price: $29,995 – $44,730 | MPG: 24 overall

With slim pillars, tall windows, and a commanding seating position, the Outback offers one of the clearest all-around views available. Its extra side windows help cut down blind spots, making it easy to maneuver in tight spaces.

Other solid picks: Kia EV9, Toyota Grand Highlander, Toyota Crown

Skip these: Tesla Model X, Jaguar F-Pace, Apha Romeo Stelvio

BEST REAR-SEAT COMFORT

Kia Seltos (2025)

Price: $24,690 – $31,190 | MPG: 28 overall

Though the cushions feel a bit firm, the Seltos provides ample room and easy entry. The wide door openings make it especially practical for families.

Other solid picks: Honda HR-V, Subaru Crosstrek

Skip this: Mazda CX-30

Hyundai Tucson (2025)

Price: $28,705 – $40,145 | MPG: 26 overall

The Tucson boasts generous head- and legroom with comfortable thigh support. Easy-to-use reclining levers and big door openings make the rear seats especially passenger-friendly.

Other solid picks: Honda CR-V, Nissan Rogue, Subaru Forester, Mazda CX-50

Skip these: Mercedes-Benz GLB, Lexus UX

Kia Telluride (2025)

Price: $36,390 – $53,685 | MPG: 21 overall

Telluride’s second row is roomy, supportive, and slides or reclines for extra flexibility. Access to the third row is made easy with push-button folding seats, though that last row is best for kids.

Other solid picks: Toyota Grand Highlander, Subaru Ascent, GMC Acadia

Skip these: Jeep Wrangler, Ford Bronco

BEST CABIN QUIETNESS

Subaru Crosstrek (2025)

Price: $26,560 – $33,360 | MPG: 29 overall

For its class, the Crosstrek is quieter than most rivals, though the engine gets noisy under heavy throttle and wind noise rises at highway speeds.

Another good pick: Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid

Skip this: Kia Seltos

Hyundai Tucson Hybrid (2025)

Price: $33,465 – $41,295 | MPG: 35 overall

The Tucson Hybrid’s electric drive makes it whisper-quiet in city driving, with minimal road or wind noise. Hard acceleration brings some engine growl, but otherwise, it’s impressively serene.

Other solid picks: Kia Sportage Hybrid, Mazda CX-50 Hybrid, Toyota RAV4 PHEV

Skip these: Toyota RAV4/Hybrid, Dodge Hornet

Kia Telluride (2025)

Price: $36,390 – $53,685 | MPG: 21 overall

Already known for comfort, the Telluride also impresses with excellent noise isolation. Road and wind sounds are well-muted, and the engine hum is subtle, giving it a calm, refined feel even on longer trips.

Other solid picks: Subaru Outback, Honda Pilot, Hyundai Santa Fe Hybrid

Skip these: Jeep Wrangler, Ford Bronco
