The 2027 Buick Envista May Ditch Its Most Questionable Design Choice

The Split Decision Design may not be as tangible as, say, a wheel-size choice, but it can still serve a functional purpose. The Buick Envista uses a split taillight arrangement, an unconventional design choice at a time when many newer models have adopted simpler or full-width treatments.

Its upper rear lamps function primarily as running lights, while the main brake lights and turn signals are installed lower on the fascia. This design is not exclusive to the Buick Envista, with the first-generation Hyundai Kona notably featuring a similar approach. Within the General Motors family, the Chevrolet Bolt EUV also used split rear lighting, but the redesigned Bolt moved its primary brake lights and turn signals higher.

Because some functions are positioned unusually low, they may be less immediately noticeable to following drivers, particularly in heavy traffic or when vehicles are traveling close together.
