In the long tradition of automotive underdogs, Polestar occupies that curious limbo between recognition and obscurity. To most Americans, it’s still a mystery badge, a name mistaken for anything from a GPS app to an indie clothing brand.
Yet beneath that obscurity, something remarkable is happening. A quiet following is forming, not unlike the one Tesla cultivated in its early days when the Model S was more experiment than mainstream commodity.
He went to Reddit to share his story:
“Started my EV journey with the Tesla Model 3 Highland – a car I really enjoyed, even with its ultra-minimalist interior. The software and integrations were excellent, though Tesla, as we all know, struggled with bugs for years before. I said goodbye to it not long after Elona started going off the rails…
At first, I considered the BMW i4, but the cramped rear space and the way every option added to the price pushed me toward Polestar. Since I’d always wanted to try the Polestar 2, I went with the 2024 model first. That version had its share of bugs and quirks (even after the latest updates), but the design and driving feel won me over.
Fast-forward to today: I’ve just upgraded to the new 2026 Polestar 2, and it truly feels like the car Polestar always intended to build. So far, no bugs – just pure enjoyment. And finally, the phone works as a digital key the way it should. The Bowers & Wilkins sound system is phenomenal, the rear-wheel drive makes it a joy to drive, and the bigger battery brings real peace of mind on longer trips. Yet, I can’t help but feel the pre-restyle front grille had a nicer look 🙂 Not sure which color I like more, the new one feels darker and flatter in the shade, but brighter and more metallic in the sun.
Anyway, it’s a very nice car, both to drive and to just sit in while enjoying music.”
What followed was a thread of comments that illustrate just how close Polestar is to breaking through into mainstream consciousness.
New Features In The Polestar 2
- Now features a faster Qualcomm Snapdragon infotainment processor, for noticeably snappier UI, quicker downloads, and smoother operation.
- Optional Bowers & Wilkins system with 14 speakers and 1,350 W output, sporting premium materials like stainless-steel mesh on door panels.
- Now comes with a 70 kWh CATL battery, bumping WLTP range to ~554 km and enabling 180 kW charge (10–80% in ~26 mins).
One reply from That-Elk2838 captured a bittersweet reality: “Gorgeous! I must say this is the Polestar 2 I have been waiting for as well. It is just sad that we can no longer get it here in Canada or the US.”

It is the classic paradox of the car business: just as Polestar seems to have built its most complete product, availability shrinks. For enthusiasts in North America, that scarcity adds a forbidden-fruit appeal, turning ownership into a badge of honor rather than just another lease deal.
Why People Are Switching To The Polestar 2
Another voice, dcb44, echoed the migration many are making. “I made the same Tesla Model 3 to PS2 transition, and for the exact same reason,” they wrote, noting that the BMW i4’s price structure didn’t hold up against Polestar’s more balanced offering. These overlapping narratives, Tesla to Polestar, frustration to satisfaction, point to something larger than coincidence. They point to a shift, however subtle, in the loyalties of EV adopters. In a market still finding its shape, that kind of momentum matters.
Even the simplest comments carry weight. Itsforthecats chimed in with: “Gorgeous car! So glad you’re having a great experience.” On the surface, it reads as a casual affirmation, but in the aggregate, it helps form a community chorus. Each of these voices contributes to a collective narrative: That Polestar has quietly, steadily reached the point where its product speaks for itself. It doesn’t need evangelism from executives. It only needs satisfied owners willing to share their stories.
Polestar 2 New Features
- Debuts a “Dune” exterior color, alongside refreshed 20‑in forged alloy wheels and upgraded MicroTech upholstery, part of expanded personalization.
- Now supports auto-authentication at compatible chargers, no apps or RFID needed.
- Polestar is experiencing 76% growth, driven by minimalist design, digital-first delivery, and Volvo/Geely backing, reinventing EV brand strategy.
That is the way automotive cults are born. Tesla proved it a decade ago, and now Polestar seems to be walking a similar path.
The 2026 Polestar 2 is not a revolution, nor does it need to be. It is a refinement, a car that takes a promising foundation and finally sands off the rough edges.
No bugs, no drama, just Scandinavian clarity paired with an audio system that encourages you to linger in the driver’s seat long after you’ve reached your destination. If this is what Polestar always intended, then the company’s path to legitimacy in the U.S. may not be loud or immediate, but it will be steady, carried forward by the voices of those who know.
