Tesla has shown off the design of a new vehicle based on the Cybertruck platform. This vehicle features the same stainless steel exterior and angular lines as the Cybertruck.
However, Tesla has replaced the traditional truck bed with an enclosed compartment, suggesting it is most likely a three-row full-sized SUV or a CyberVan.
Tesla shared the vehicle’s design in a video posted on the company’s official X account.
In the video, the Cybertruck-based three-row SUV isn’t the main focus, but it can be seen in the background alongside another upcoming Tesla vehicle, the Robotaxi.
The footage was likely shot at Tesla’s design studio in Hawthorne, California, or at the Palo Alto engineering office. The primary focus in the frame is a one-to-one scale clay model of the Robotaxi, which is prominently displayed.
However, in the background, Tesla also shows two scaled-down mockups of the Cybertruck-based vehicle.
As you can see, this vehicle shares the same front end and stainless steel exterior as the Cybertruck, but instead of a bed, it has glass extending backward, which means it’s either a third-row seat or a CyberVan setup.
Considering Tesla’s highly secretive design process, this was probably no mistake; it’s more likely the company deliberately released this image to tease future plans.
Why Share a Picture of an Unannounced Vehicle?
The main question is why Tesla released and shared this teaser. While it’s not certain, it seems Tesla is testing public interest for a Cyber SUV without making an official statement or confirming production plans.
And the EV maker has achieved what it aimed for, as Tesla fans appear excited about the idea of a full-sized SUV built on the Cybertruck chassis.
Tesla influencer Omar Qazi wrote…,
“If Tesla made a 3-row Cyber SUV, I would definitely have to think about buying it.”
Another Tesla fan, who goes by the username Mr. Fundman, responded on X, writing…
“NO WAY!! We asked for it. Tesla listens. Let’s Go!”
A third Tesla fan, Matt Van Swol, writes…
“This is exactly what everyone wants.”

A fourth Tesla enthusiast, Boring Investor, goes even further, suggesting the Cyber SUV/Van can increase Tesla’s $1 trillion market cap by 20% to 30%, which in other words means a $200 billion to $300 billion increase.
Just for context, this is equivalent to the market cap of the entire Volkswagen group and Toyota combined. The two companies together produce 20 million vehicles annually and have a combined market cap of $310 billion.
Boring Investor writes…
“Tesla’s Cyber SUV is definitely a strategic nod to dominating the $1T+ SUV market. If launched, expect 20-30% TSLA uplift via economies of scale & FSD synergies.”
This is definitely an interesting perspective; however, given the reactions, one thing that’s clear is that Tesla enthusiasts have been longing for a large three-row SUV for years.
While Tesla currently sells the Model X, which comes in 6-seater and 7-seater configurations, the vehicle’s 117-inch wheelbase means most people don’t consider it a true full-sized SUV.
Owners with large families and those seeking a more spacious option have been urging Tesla to create a bigger vehicle.
And it appears that an SUV inspired by the Cybertruck is what they have been looking for.
Impact on Cybertruck Sales
Another important point is that demand for the Cybertruck has been lower than Tesla initially expected.
Elon Musk previously mentioned that the Cybertruck production line could be expanded to produce 250,000 trucks annually.
Currently, Tesla has the installed capacity to produce around 130,000 Cybertrucks per year, but demand is only about 20,000 units annually.
This leaves excess installed production, and introducing a Cybertruck-based SUV might help Tesla better utilize its Cybertruck manufacturing line.
However, a key question remains: if demand for the Cybertruck isn’t strong enough, is it worthwhile for Tesla to develop and produce another vehicle on the same chassis?
This is the million-dollar question, or as some believe, a $200 billion to $300 billion question.
