“I love my Cybertruck, but sometimes I feel like Tesla wants us to bend over and get Cyber-“expletive.”
Strong words from a Tesla Cybertruck owner who was one of the first to buy a CT.
Imagine being the first to pull the trigger, investing $100,000 in a new Cybertruck when it first came out, and having to deal with all the recalls and CT issues, including leaks, wiper defects, and trim that comes detached. The frustration of these early adopters is understandable.
Now, as sales are slow, you see Tesla offering free charging, Autopilot, and wheels as incentives to new customers. The stark contrast in treatment between early and new buyers is undeniable, leaving a sense of injustice lingering in the air.
Paul Marsh, on the Cybertruck Owner Only Facebook page, has this rant, and you can’t blame him for being upset at the electric car automaker.
He has a message for Tesla.
He says, “Anyone buy the first edition 2024 Cybertruck and see these new offers?”
Tesla, it would be nice if free charging were extended to those loyal customers who signed up for a reservation that was initially touted as being $75,000 or less and ended up costing over $100,000.
Please don’t let the Cybertruck become the next DeLorean. Tesla used to take pride in its customer service. Please don’t forget who brought you to the dance.
I have been a guinea pig for tonneau cover leaks, wiper defects due to camera inefficiencies, insecure overhead shift consoles that come unattached and almost cause a wreck.
Paul points out a recent report from MSN about Tesla offering free Autopilot, charging, and Cybertruck wheels now, as sales are slumping.
Here’s What’s Going On
Tesla is offering a range of incentives, including free Autopilot, Supercharging, and Cybertruck wheels, to combat declining sales.
These promotions are a direct response to a significant drop in second-quarter sales, marking Tesla’s worst performance in over a decade. The slump in sales is attributed to various factors, including increased competition, political backlash, and the end of some U.S. EV support programs.
Specifically, Tesla is offering:
- Free Supercharging: This is being offered on select Cybertruck models and for a limited time on the Model 3.
- Free Autopilot: Tesla is offering free transfers of its Full Self-Driving (Supervised) software to Cybertrucks.
- Cybertruck Wheel Upgrades: The Cybertruck is receiving a complimentary upgrade to 20-inch Cyber wheels with all-terrain tires, according to InsideEVs.
- Reduced APR Financing: The Model Y is now available with a reduced APR financing rate.
What Are Other CT Owners Saying?
Advertising
Steve Dallas – Anyone who followed the release of the S X Y and 3 isn’t surprised at all. Tesla uses first adopters to fund the line. Always has. And really. Same as every other car maker. How else do you explain $150,000 for a Dodge Demon?
Christian Mendoza – Plenty of good points, but I’ve never once heard someone say Tesla has good customer service. You can call all day sometimes, they try to tell you (it’s within specs), or do what they can to get out of paying. Customer service has gotten better. But it’s still not even good most of the time. Been here since the Model 3 launch.
Jonathan Joiner – Tesla has never prided itself on customer service. I have been an owner since 2018, and service has always been terrible. I submitted a warranty claim for a faulty GPS device.
They couldn’t see me for 5 weeks. My warranty ran out in 4 weeks. When I arrived, they informed me that there was no warranty and no loaner available. It would take a week to diagnose the issue.
I drove 2 1/2 hours to the service center. I ended up paying $40.00 and replacing the GPS antenna in the parking lot with a multi-tool. Thankfully, that’s the only issue I’ve had with my Tesla Model 3 in 7 years.
Roger Telegan – Timing is everything! Early adopters always pay the price. I love my 2025. I waited until the end of 2019 for my first Model 3. It was an absolute dream and a well-built, trouble-free car.
This CT is solid and has a better fit and build quality than some of the 2024 models I’ve been in. I hope Tesla resolves the build issues you are experiencing. I’m in San Jose, CA, and the Fremont factory is 6 miles from my home.
The team at the store adjacent to the factory takes great pride in the product and delivering an outstanding experience for all customers, so it is easy to get good assistance here.
Conclusion:
It’s not a surprise that these promotions come as Tesla faces a challenging market, with declining sales and profit margins. Tesla is also reportedly facing criticism and safety concerns regarding the Cybertruck, which may be contributing to its lackluster sales performance.
Elon Musk has acknowledged the “rough few quarters” ahead for Tesla.
It’s easy to understand why Cybertruck owners like Paul, who helped Tesla launch the new electric truck and showcase its capabilities, despite its early issues.
Every new vehicle launch has growing pains as the automaker addresses the latest issues that all-new models typically encounter. Now, owners face new challenges as they see buyers get free charging, Autopilot, wheels, and financing incentives.
