Subaru is hoping to make a big splash at this year’s New York auto show, as the company is planning to debut two new vehicles: the redesigned 2026 Outback and a new electric SUV model called the Trailseeker. We’ve known for some time now that a new Outback was coming, but this is our first time hearing of a second EV model, as the 2026 Trailseeker will join the Solterra in Subaru’s electric lineup.The announcement was accompanied by teaser photos of both vehicles, with the first showing a 2026 Outback tearing through the dirt. This image confirms that the new model will have an even boxier and more upright profile when compared with the current model, which was already getting rather tall and SUV-esque to still be considered a station wagon. We’re expecting big design changes inside and out, though we don’t know much about the new Outback’s mechanical upgrades other than our expectation that it will add a hybrid powertrain at some point in this new generation’s run. A Wilderness off-road trim will surely be part of the lineup once again.SubaruThe Trailseeker teaser is less revealing, and merely shows a badge for this new nameplate and a glimpse of its bumper and taillight. We’re expecting this new SUV to be related to the Solterra compact SUV in terms of its underpinnings, but it may be different in terms of size or shape. The Solterra’s sibling, the Toyota bZ4X, recently received updates including more powerful electric motors, so we’re expecting these changes to apply to the Subaru soon as well.
