Several Tesla Cybertruck Owners Are Reporting that Their OEM Off-Road Light Bar is Flying Off the Roof in the Middle of the Highway; However, One Owner Says, “It’s Okay, I’ve Another Cybertruck to Drive”

Dan Kam, a Cybertruck owner from New York, reports that the off-road light bar mounted on the top of his Cybertruck’s windshield became detached and flew off while he was traveling 65 miles per hour on the highway.
This is concerning, however, Dan says, it’s not too much of an inconvenience because he has a second Cybertruck to drive until this Cybertruck gets fixed up.
After the light bar flew off on the highway, Dan shared his experience on the Tesla Cybertruck Owners group on Facebook.
He writes…

“Well, this just happened.
I put in a service request, and I am still waiting to hear back.
It’s okay, I have another Cybertruck to drive tomorrow.
We were only driving 65 mph on the highway.
Hopefully, Tesla will figure this one out.”

Below his post, Dan shared a picture he took by the side of the highway where his wife is holding the lightbar.
The lightbar has completely come off the Cybertruck except in one spot; rather than glued to the top of the windshield, it is currently dangling from the side of the Cybertruck, held only by a single black electrical wire coming off the Cybertruck roof.
This is certainly not ideal; however, what’s even more surprising is that several other Cybertruck owners have come out and shared that their off-road light bars are also flying off in the middle of the road.
A fellow Cybertruck owner, Dan Schindler, shared that he, too, has lost his light bar in the middle of the road, and he hasn’t been able to locate it.
Dan Schindler writes…

“Mine flew completely off. Never found it”

Below his post, the second Dan shared a picture of his Cybertruck roof showing torn-up electrical wires where the lightbar detached from the electrical system on the roof.
This is bad enough; however, a third Cybertruck owner, Therron Fox from Kansas, also shared that his off-road light bar started to detach a day after he got it installed.
Therron writes…

“It happened to me on day one after installing the off-road light bar, even though the glue had over 12 hours to cure.
They said the primer for the glue went bad, and that’s what I’m waiting on now to arrive. They will reinstall it for me once the new primer comes in.”

Below his post, Therron also shared a picture of his Cybertruck’s light bar, which hasn’t flown off entirely but is partially detaching from the roof.
Outside of Facebook, other Tesla online forums are also filled with Cybertruck owners reporting that their off-road light bars are flying off in the middle of the highway.
Another Cybertruck owner from New Jersey shared his experience on the Cybertruck Owners Club forum.
He writes…

“Lightbar flew off while driving on highway!!
Need advice. My factory OEM Lightbar just flew off my truck while driving on the highway. Luckily, no one behind me was injured, nor did it cause any damage to any vehicles behind me, but the lightbar was in pieces across the highway.
In addition, where the harness feeds into the car on the driver’s side, the plastic rail broke into pieces. I was able to snap it back into place. The Lightbar was installed in February of this year.
Question? Is this Tesla’s responsibility, as the adhesive didn’t work? Or is this an insurance claim?
If Tesla is responsible, do I set up service through the app and explain the details there? Or do I pay a visit to the service center? The service center that installed it was Springfield, NJ SC.
This sucks!!!”

So far, I’ve seen more than a dozen Cybertruck owners across several online Tesla forums reporting that their off-road light bar is flying off in the middle of the road.
This is concerning, and what’s happening here is that Tesla is using some sort of adhesive to fix the lightbar to the top of the windshield.
However, Tesla is not installing the lightbar at the factory, and the glue application is done at various Tesla service centers throughout the country.
This decentralized off-road light bar installation process seems to be introducing numerous quality assurance issues, particularly regarding the proper application of the glue Tesla uses to secure the light bar to the top of the windshield.
Overall, Tesla hasn’t yet published an official recall for this issue. However, please let me know what you think in the comments.
