We knew that Toyota’s new bZ battery-electric crossover would be coming out soon, and honestly, it didn’t really pique our interest much. The original bZ4x was pretty good, and the lamestream automotive press universally panned it, like they do many Toyota vehicles that are not the flashiest in the segment. However, when I heard “Woodland,” I was immediately on the Toyota site checking for the tires.

Tires matter on crossovers and SUVs if the owner ever plans to head off pavement. I do that almost every week in my own personal Ford Bronco Sport Badlands, and before that, a Subaru Forester, and before that, a Toyota Highlander. Being on dirt roads and travelling down trial head accessways has taught me that what matters most is tires. In addition, I do some gnarly winter driving, and I would not own a vehicle without severe-snow duty-rated rubber.
What I found on the Toyota media site was no mention of the specific brand of tire the bZ would have, but that there would be factory-supplied all-terrain tires available. I magnified the images and discovered that, like the RAV4 Hybrid Woodlands, Toyota had selected the Falken WildPeak A/T Trail all-terrain tire!
We’re fans of the WildPeak series here. My own Bronco Sport Badlands has OEM-supplied WildPeak A/T3W tires, which I have found are ideal for that vehicle. Torque News tested and reviewed the WildPeak A/T Trail tires on my prior crossover SUV. They blew us away.
The WildPeak A/T Trail tires have the three-peak mountain snowflake symbol, denoting that they are tested and approved for severe snow duty. That is very important to me. Also, the tread design and sidewall offer the right combination of protection and grip that one needs on first roads and trails. In our testing, the WildPeak A/T Trail tires did not add any meaningful noise to the cabin, and they did not diminish fuel efficiency.
The New bZ adds more range, more power, and a lot of other great stuff. Personally, I’m tickled pink to see that somebody at Toyota knows what we discovered. That the Falken WildPeak A/T Trail is a great choice for a green crossover that may head off pavement.
Tell us in the comments if you think this tire is a good match for this vehicle.
