Imagine getting your new 2025 Toyota Tacoma pickup home, taking a close look, and you’re not happy with how your pickup looks. The long bed makes it appear scrawny and in need of a change. It doesn’t look like the truck you envisioned driving.

So what do you do?

Keaira Artemis Kusanagi on the 4th Gen 2024+ Toyota Tacoma Owners Facebook page says she added spacers to the stock wheels, but is it the best option?

Keaira says, I added 1.5″ wheel spacers today, and I am pleased with the stance now. I always thought it looked a little lean because of the 6-foot bed.

I went with KSP spacers 1.5” Hubcentric Wheel Spacers – 1995-2024 Toyota Tacoma/4unner 2002+ Lexus – KSP Performance | KSP Performance.

Is adding spacers to the Tacoma’s wheels safe?

Adding wheel spacers to a 2025 Toyota Tacoma can cause issues if not done correctly, but they are generally considered safe for daily driving and off-roading when installed properly. High-quality, hub-centric spacers are recommended to minimize potential problems like wobbling.

Here’s a more detailed breakdown:

Potential Issues:

  • Increased Stress on Components: Spacers push the wheels further out, increasing stress on wheel bearings, suspension components, and potentially leading to premature wear.
  • Alignment Issues: While spacers don’t directly affect alignment, the change in wheel position can influence tire wear patterns.
  • Vibration: Poorly installed or low-quality spacers can cause vibrations and shaking, especially at higher speeds.
  • Safety Concerns: Using spacers that are too thick with stock studs can compromise thread engagement, leading to potential wheel separation.

When are they safe?

  • Proper Installation: Ensure appropriate installation, including using Loctite and torquing bolts to the correct specifications.
  • Hub-Centric Spacers: Hub-centric spacers center the wheel on the hub, preventing wobbling and vibration.
  • Quality Spacers: Invest in high-quality spacers from reputable brands to ensure durability and proper fitment.
  • Regular Inspection: It’s crucial to regularly inspect spacers and bolts for any signs of damage or loosening, especially during tire rotations.
  • Appropriate Thickness: Choose spacers that are appropriately sized for your Tacoma and tire setup to avoid excessive stress or thread engagement issues.

In the End

In summary, wheel spacers can be a safe and effective way to achieve a wider stance and improve the look of your Tacoma. Still, it’s crucial to prioritize proper installation, quality components, and regular maintenance to mitigate potential risks.

Is there a better option than adding 1.5-inch spacers to the stock wheel of a 2025 Toyota Tacoma to improve the stance?

There are better options than 1.5-inch wheel spacers to improve the stance of a 2025 Toyota Tacoma, especially if you’re prioritizing long-term reliability and ride quality. While spacers can widen the stance, they can also introduce potential issues like accelerated wear on suspension components and increased stress on wheel bearings. A more robust and potentially better solution involves upgrading to aftermarket wheels with a suitable offset or considering a suspension lift with a leveling kit or coilovers.

Here’s why and some alternatives:

1. Potential Issues with Wheel Spacers:

Accelerated Wear: Spacers effectively increase the leverage on wheel bearings and suspension components, potentially leading to premature wear.

Ride Quality: Although some may not notice a significant difference, spacers can negatively impact ride quality, particularly with larger spacers.

Advertising

Vibrations: Improperly installed or low-quality spacers can cause vibrations.

Durability: Cheap spacers can corrode or fail, leading to unsafe situations.

2. Better Alternatives:

So, are there better alternatives to 1.5-inch wheel spacers for improving the stance of a 2025 Toyota Tacoma? The answer is yes, and we’re about to explore them.

Aftermarket Wheels with Offset: Instead of spacers, consider aftermarket wheels designed with a positive offset that pushes the wheels further out, achieving a wider stance without the drawbacks of spacers.

Leveling Kits: These kits, often involving strut spacers or coilover upgrades, lift the front of the truck (and sometimes the rear) to level the stance and allow for larger tires, improving both the look and off-road capability.

Suspension Lift Kits: For a more significant lift and wider stance, suspension lift kits offer a comprehensive solution, replacing key suspension components and allowing for larger tires.

TRD Pro Wheels: If you’re looking for a subtle improvement, TRD Pro wheels offer a slightly wider stance due to their offset compared to standard Tacoma wheels.

3. Considerations:

Budget: Consider your budget, as different options have varying costs. Leveling kits and aftermarket wheels can be more expensive than spacers.

Desired Stance: Determine how much broader you want the stance to be. Some options offer a more aggressive stance than others.

Off-Roading: If you plan on significant off-roading, suspension lift kits or leveling kits might be more suitable for increased ground clearance and suspension travel.

Tire Size: Consider the tire size you plan to run. Some options may require modifications like trimming or a cab mount chop (CMC) if you go with a larger tire size.

Conclusion:

While wheel spacers can be a quick fix for a wider stance, they come with potential drawbacks. Exploring options like aftermarket wheels with offset or a suspension lift provides a more robust and potentially better solution for achieving your desired stance and performance.
