A little more than 5000 miles separates Ireland and the west coast of California, but Mercedes merges the two in its latest custom-curated Maybach S-class. The Mercedes-Maybach S680 Emerald Isle may be named after the North Atlantic island of verdant green fields, whisky, and leprechauns, but its maker says California’s Central Coast inspired the car.Mercedes-MaybachMercedes-MaybachMaybach: Made for Royalty The car is finished in two Manufaktur colors: Mid Ireland green metallic over Moonlight white metallic. The four-seat interior is slathered in light brown nappa leather, with quilted-stitched black leather on the ceiling. Extra-thick carpet floor mats are also edged in leather, and the piano-black trim gets chrome accent stripes. Mercedes-MaybachThe smell—that’s where the Central Coast comes in. This S680 gets its own special fragrance for the in-cabin ionizer, and it’s said to combine sea salt, cypress, and cedar. The fragrance bottle is adorned with an image of Monterey’s lone cypress to help you make the connection.Mercedes-MaybachTwelve Cylinders > Eight CylindersLike all S680s, the Edition Emerald Isle is powered by a 621-hp 6.0-liter V-12, rather than the 496-hp twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V-8 in the S580. Air springs and active sound damping are standard. When we last tested an S680, we recorded just 64 decibels at 70 mph.Mercedes-MaybachBridging the New World and the Old, the 2026 Mercedes-Maybach S680 Edition Emerald Isle goes on sale this fall.
