- Mercedes-Benz confirmed that the G-class lineup is expanding to include a new cabriolet.
- According to Mercedes, the open-top G will be sold in nearly every market the automaker operates in, including the United States.
- The last softtop Geländewagen came in the form of the hyper-exclusive 2018 Mercedes-Maybach G650 Landaulet.
Despite having a history rich with military prowess and off-roading accomplishments, a sizable percentage of G-wagens sold today spend their time driving around Los Angeles. While the automaker confirmed to Car and Driver that it plans to bring the new cabriolet to “almost every market in the world, including the U.S.” the 2018 version was much more exclusive. That’s because rather than build a normal production version of the G-class cabriolet, the automaker opted to build a Maybach edition labeled the G650 Landaulet. Production was limited to just 99 units, and while pricing was never announced to the public, we estimated that at the time it cost around $550,000. Mercedes hasn’t given an exact timeline for when we can expect the new cabriolet model, but given that the automaker updated the G’s sheetmetal for 2025, we wouldn’t be shocked to see it added sometime during the 2026 model year.
