I Walked Away From My Ford F-150, the Chevy Dealer Had A Bunch of 2024 Silverado 6.2Ls Leftover, I Got a 200K Warranty, and Free Trailer for $58K OTD

It could be the best time ever to buy a 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 6.2L.

Check out the deal that Eric Josephson shares on the 2019 – 2025 Chevy Silverado & GMC Sierra Owners Facebook page. He says,

“First-time Chevy owner, and I’m walking away from my Ford F150. A local dealer had a Labor Day sale. They had a bunch of leftover 2024 Silverado 1500 RST Waldoch Upfit with the 6.2L engine. And yes, the recall was done. They included a 200k warranty and a new trailer. I paid $58k out the door.”

It’s an automotive rivalry as old as time: Ford versus Chevrolet.

For decades, the Ford F-150 and the Chevrolet Silverado have battled for pickup truck supremacy, each commanding a loyal and often unshakeable following. So when an owner crosses the aisle, trading their Blue Oval for a Bowtie, it’s not just a transaction—it’s a newsworthy event.

This is exactly what makes the story of Eric Josephson so compelling. In the Facebook post, he shared a tale that’s a masterclass in how a dealer, armed with leftover 2024 model-year inventory and a strategic deal, can win over even the most dedicated brand loyalist. His words are a hook for anyone in the automotive world:

“First-time Chevy owner, and I’m walking away from my Ford F150.”

Eric didn’t just buy any Silverado; he purchased a highly specialized, upfitted model with a powerful engine. The truck in question was a leftover 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 RST Waldoch Upfit, a model equipped with the formidable 6.2L V8 L87 engine.

This engine is the crown jewel of GM’s light-duty truck lineup, pumping out a robust 420 horsepower and 460 lb.-ft. of torque. It’s the kind of power that appeals to enthusiasts and anyone who needs maximum towing and hauling capability, providing a driving experience that’s both spirited and muscular.

But the Waldoch Upfit is what truly made this truck a standout. Waldoch is a well-regarded name in the custom upfitting industry, known for transforming stock vehicles into bespoke, high-end machines. These customizations often include suspension lifts, larger wheels and tires, custom interior upholstery, and unique exterior badging. The upfit adds both aesthetic appeal and enhanced capability, turning the truck into a rare find on any dealer lot.

This level of customization speaks to a buyer who wants their vehicle to be a statement, not just a tool. The typical 2024 Silverado 1500 RST is already a popular trim, striking a balance between functionality and style, but the Waldoch package elevates it to a different class.

A Perfect Storm

Eric’s purchase was the result of a strategic Labor Day sale, a cornerstone of the automotive retail calendar. These holiday sales are a perfect opportunity for dealers to move remaining inventory and for savvy consumers to find significant savings. Eric’s timing was impeccable, allowing him to capitalize on a dealer’s motivation to clear a unique, leftover model.

However, it was the additional incentives that truly sealed the deal.

The Recall Was Done

A critical detail that speaks volumes about the dealer’s integrity was Eric’s note that “the recall was done.” My own research confirms that the 6.2L V8 L87 engine was subject to a manufacturer recall for specific 2021-2024 models due to potential defects that could lead to engine damage. This was a serious concern for consumers, but by ensuring the recall was completed, the dealer removed a major obstacle to consumer confidence and turned a potential liability into a selling point.

Advertising

For anyone searching for Chevy Silverado 6.2L engine recall and warranty information, Eric’s experience would be a reassuring sign that the issue has a clear and effective remedy. The dealership’s diligence in this matter is a prime example of best practices in customer service.

The 200k-Mile Warranty

This is where the deal goes from great to exceptional. Standard manufacturer warranties on a new Silverado typically cover the powertrain for 60,000 miles or 5 years, whichever comes first. A warranty extension of this magnitude is a remarkable commitment, offering the buyer unprecedented peace of mind. It effectively addresses any latent concerns about the engine’s long-term reliability following the recall and serves as a powerful testament to the vehicle’s quality. For anyone looking for a similar level of protection, searching for a 200k-mile extended warranty on new Chevy trucks could lead to some surprising finds.

A New Trailer is Thrown In the Deal

To top it all off, the dealer included a brand-new trailer. This is an almost unheard-of incentive in the world of high-value vehicle purchases. While other dealers might offer a few thousand dollars off or a small accessory package, a brand-new trailer is a substantial, tangible asset that demonstrates the dealership’s willingness to go to great lengths to close the deal on this specific, unique vehicle. It adds undeniable value to the overall package and is a creative way to entice a buyer.

An Exceptional Value

Eric’s final out-the-door price of $58,000 for a 2024 Silverado RST with a 6.2L engine, a custom Waldoch Upfit, a 200k-mile warranty, and a new trailer is, by any measure, an exceptional value. When considering the totality of the package, it’s a price point that demonstrates the power of negotiation and the potential for a dealer to sweeten the deal with creative and valuable add-ons.

The debate between the 2024 GMC Sierra vs. Chevy Silverado 1500 is also part of this story, as many buyers cross-shop these two GM stablemates. However, in this case, the Silverado’s strong brand identity and the dealer’s specific, compelling offer were clearly enough to win over a buyer who was previously committed to a different brand.

This story is a perfect example of what can happen when a buyer is patient and a dealership gets creative.

Eric’s jump from Ford to Chevy wasn’t a random whim; it was a well-considered decision based on an incredibly compelling offer. The dealer didn’t just sell him a truck; they sold him peace of mind with that massive warranty and added undeniable value with the trailer.

In The End

I’ve been in this business for a long time, and a deal like this doesn’t come around every day. It shows that even in a tough market, the right combination of product, price, and customer service can break through brand loyalty.
