It is no secret that Infiniti has fallen from the grace of enthusiasts. Between the early 2000s and the early 2020s, Nissan’s luxury arm gave us some pretty solid cars, including the G35, G37, Q50, and Q60, to name a few.
Currently, Infiniti is like the shy child that sits in the corner of the class room. We don’t hear much from it or about it, so I got curious and decided to see what Infiniti owners on Facebook are up to.
I stumbled upon an interesting post from one Infiniti owner on the Infiniti Lovers group who found herself in a bit of a pickle. Here’s what Verda Robinson says:
“Thank goodness for The MyInfiniti App..I lost my key fob twice now”. I just lock it up in my car.”
This raised an interesting question in my mind, about modern features that many perceive as useless, but turn out to be a big help when the right time comes.

The MyInfiniti App became available on August 29, 2022, so if you have a 2022 model-year Infiniti or newer, you can benefit from its features. The app allows for remote start, remote lock/ unlock, and more. While the app itself is free, getting access to the the full list of features requires a paid subscription, which will set you back $16.99 to $33.99 a month or $203.88 to $407.88 annually.
I would agree that it may seem like a steep price for something that’s basically a gimmick, but this Infiniti owner was lucky to have the app. I can only assume the did not have easy access to the spare key at the time. The cost of unlocking a car after you forget your keys in isn’t steep – typically around $50 to $250, but having the option to do so with a mobile app adds a level of convenience to car ownership.
But not every car owner has a happy experience with such apps. While there is at least one grateful Infiniti owner, a Nissan Z owner had its car broken into, and the MyNissan app, reportedly, failed to notify them about the break-in.
This was not an isolated issue, as the owner admits this is the second time she has locked the keys inside the car.
This begs a question: how to prevent similar situations, and not lock yourself out of your car?
Smart technologies like MyInfiniti app do help, but not every car company is currently offering one. Most modern vehicles feature keyless entry and keyless start, meaning your key fob can stay in your pocket while you enter and start your vehicle. Even so, some owners leave the key fob in their purse, which let’s face it, is the first thing you drop in your car as you enter it.
Two effective ways to prevent locking yourself out of your car are to develop healthy habits or to wear your key fob on yourself.
Then, there is the question of how secure these apps are, and how easy they are for hackers to break in. There are sophisticated car thieves out there, and certain models are more susceptible to hackers than others.
Tesla models have been listed as high-risk, and not long ago, some Kia and Hyundai models were also known to have mediocre cybersecurity measures. Popular models like the Mazda MX-5 Miata and CX-5 are getting a new cyber security update for 2026, and we can only hope Nissan and its luxury arm, Infiniti, have done everything to minimize such risks.
Not everyone is happy with Nissan and Infiniti, especially when it comes to their more recent models, so a pleasant turn of events like this is a welcome sight for the Japanese luxury brand.
What do you think about apps like MyInfiniti and MyNissan? Do you think they are an overpriced gimmick, which you can do away, or does it help to have them around? I would also be curious to hear about any similar situations you have had with your vehicle. Feel free to share in the comment section below.
