“I have two questions: Is Toyota doing ok, and is my new Corolla about to die?”
Those are questions that Vicky (@its_actually_vicky) asks in her TikTok clip. So, imagine just graduating from college; you just bought a new 2024 Toyota Corolla, you paid $25,000 for the compact car, the biggest purchase you’ve ever made, and you find out there are problems with it.

She says, “I am asking because I just graduated college and bought my first car. It’s a 2024 Toyota Corolla. I just received three recalls in the mail for my new Corolla.”

Vicky checks her mailbox and finds three separate letters from Toyota Motor USA. When she opens them, she sees that her new car, which she loves, has three separate recalls for three different issues.
One is for a steering problem, a brake issue, and a vapor leak issue. Vicky bought the Corolla because she had heard it should be a good car. So now she is so concerned she wonders if she made a mistake buying a new Toyota Corolla.
Here is Vicky’s story.

“Should I be worried?”
“I am worried because the first one is for the potential loss of steering. That one seems important and a little scary. The second is for a temporary hard brake pedal. So, there is something wrong with the brakes.”

“Now I am really worried.”
“Great. So I don’t like seeing something is wrong with the steering and the brakes.”
There’s A Third Recall

“Lastly, the third recall is for a fuel tank filler cap vapor leak detection issue. I’m not even sure what that one is about.”

Is Her New Toyota Corolla About To Die?
Vicky is worried that her car won’t make it until she can get the car repaired. “I don’t know about you, but am I even going to make it to the repair for these three recalls? One recall would be concerning, but three recalls in the mail have me worried,” she says with concern.
Does the 2024 Toyota Corolla Have Reliability Problems?
The 2024 Toyota Corolla has reliability issues, as evidenced by several recalls and consumer reports. While generally known for reliability, specific issues have emerged in the 2024 model year, including steering shaft fractures and potential brake problems.
Here is what Corolla Owners and Customers Need To Know
1. Corolla Recalls:
Toyota has recalled 2023 and 2024 Corolla models due to steering shaft fractures. These fractures can lead to losing steering control, significantly increasing the risk of accidents. Additionally, some Corolla Cross Hybrid models have been recalled for potential loss of power braking assist, which can result in longer stopping distances.
2. Corolla Owner Reports:
Some owners have reported issues with the 2024 Corolla, including jerky acceleration, oil leaks, and problems with the MAF sensor. One owner described a recurring issue where the ECU would malfunction, causing the engine to stop.
3. Warranty:
The 2024 Corolla has a standard 3-year/36,000-mile basic, 5-year/60,000-mile powertrain warranty. Toyota should cover all potential issues under warranty for free, particularly those related to recalls.
4. Reliability Ratings:
While the 2024 Corolla has a predicted reliability score of 79 out of 100, this score is considered average, not high. Some reports also indicate a drop in J.D. Power’s quality and reliability ratings for the 2024 model compared to previous years.
What Does Consumer Reports Say?
Consumer Reports gives the 2024 Corolla a 74/100 reliability rating and a 3/5 owner satisfaction rating. These sores are below average compared with other similar models.
The 2024 Mazda 3 has a 97/100 reliability rating, and the 2024 Subaru Impreza also has a 97/100 reliability ranking.
Kelley Blue Book says that consumers found the vehicle’s reliability and styling to be its strongest features and performance to be its weakest. Only 56 out of 97 owners (58%) rank the 2024 Corolla five out of five stars.
What Are Corolla Owners Saying?
Reddit user Proud_Acanthaceae994 says, “I just bought a new 2024 Toyota Corolla LE. From the start, even at the dealership, it had issues. I knew the brake felt/ sounded/ operated wrong, but I needed a car, and the tech kept telling me it was a new car and the brakes needed to be broken in.”
“The brakes didn’t want to grip; it felt so wrong. It was scary because they shook, and I could hear a grinding sound. The car feels unstable and unreliable, and the engine is loud. When I shifted from Park to Reverse, the car went forward before going backward.”
“I saw 125 used and preowned Toyota Corolla LE for sale. That’s a telling sign that these cars have concerns and issues.”
Another Reddit post from leobanis333 says, “My new Corolla started doing that, and at 7,000 miles I had to take it to the dealership, results, transmission issues, the car stayed at the dealership for 2 months for a fix (transmission and motor mounts replacement l), I got it back and a week later is having the same issue getting stronger with time. Now, I’m taking it to the dealership again.”
Conclusion:
While the 2024 Toyota Corolla generally maintains a reputation for reliability, specific recalls and some owner reports suggest potential reliability problems, particularly in the steering and braking systems.

Vicky concludes, “These three recalls are a crazy trio. I actually love my very quiet Corolla, but it’s a crazy trio. I have another question. Toyota, is my car about to die? That’s all I have to say.”
