I Just Drove The Lucid Gravity And Immediately Placed An Order, The $100K EV SUV Converted Both Me And My Wife From Our Audi SQ5 After Just One Test Drive

The buzz around Lucid’s new Gravity SUV is brewing from the pavement up, and you can thank Reddit’s r/Lucid for that. The subreddit has become a genuine proving ground where early test drivers, real people, not brand ambassadors, are lining up to share their uncensored impressions. Some are skeptical. Most are floored. And a few, like Vishal87_Rao, made a decision right then and there: they bought one.

“This was my first time driving an EV. I currently own an Audi SQ5 and have been considering the Lucid Gravity, as it meets all our requirements for our next vehicle.

After our test drive, my wife was convinced, and we decided to place an order.”

Vishal’s summary reads like a checklist for exactly the kind of buyer Lucid has been targeting: discerning, tech-curious, and ready to jump ship from the old luxury playbook, And what’s winning them over? Not gimmicks or gimmicky marketing. It’s the feel of the materials, the tactile buttons, the wood accents, and a driving experience that doesn’t try to be a video game.
How Engineering and Aesthetics Align

  • Lucid Motors fosters close collaboration between its design and engineering teams by housing them under one roof. This integrated setup ensures that aesthetic design and technical functionality evolve together, leading to a harmonious and efficient vehicle development process.
  • Despite the prevalence of digital modeling, Lucid continues to utilize traditional clay modeling techniques. This hands-on approach allows designers to physically interact with the vehicle’s form, facilitating a deeper understanding of proportions and surfaces, which is crucial for refining the vehicle’s aesthetics and ergonomics.
  • The Gravity’s design prioritizes interior spaciousness without compromising on performance or aerodynamics. By leveraging compact electric powertrain components and a low-profile battery pack, Lucid maximizes cabin space, offering comfortable seating for up to seven adults and ample cargo capacity, all within a sleek and aerodynamic SUV profile.

Lucid’s approach with the Gravity is equal parts ambition and understatement. It’s not trying to out-weird Tesla. Instead, it focuses on making a solid, premium, liveable SUV. Reddit user FrontFly2562, already an owner of the Lucid Air, highlighted the Gravity’s composure and packaging with engineer-like precision:

“Rides and handles like the Air (which is a good thing), with a higher driving position…
With rear wheel steering, I made a U-turn from the inner lane directly to the inner lane.”

If that’s not praise coming from someone already invested in the Lucid ecosystem, I don’t know what is.
And yet, even in the middle of this consumer enthusiasm, Twizzlezappa, a seasoned EV owner and pre-order holder, was unimpressed by a rushed, underwhelming test drive that involved untrained staff and frustrating software limitations.

“I have owned 4 electric cars, this will (would?) be my 5th. The test drive experience was a real disappointment… The car isn’t ready for delivery based on my limited exposure to it this morning. Really bummed.”

But even that didn’t amount to a total rejection, just a hope that this early stumble was an outlier, not a systemic flaw. That, in itself, tells you the Gravity has something worth hoping for.
Why Craftsmanship Trumps Firmware Updates
And what’s Tesla doing while Lucid’s out here converting Audi and Volvo loyalists? The Model X, still the heavyweight of the luxury EV SUV world, has started to feel less like a future-forward juggernaut and more like a software update on wheels.

Lucid’s Gravity, by contrast, feels physical. It embraces craftsmanship and dynamic performance instead of relying on Easter eggs and dog mode. The Model X may still win on charging infrastructure and Autopilot polish, but Lucid is making a play that can’t be patched with firmware: a superior driving and ownership experience.
Look at the bigger picture, and it becomes obvious that the United States is now the front line of EV innovation in North America. Lucid and Tesla are throwing haymakers at each other while Rivian sneaks up with lifestyle charm. Meanwhile, Chinese giants like BYD and Nio are waiting just beyond the gate, prepping for an inevitable market disruption. But until that moment comes, American buyers are being treated to a front-row seat in a homegrown technology arms race, and the Gravity is one of its most promising outcomes.

Lucid Gravity Dimensions: Length, Width & Wheelbase Specs

  • The Lucid Gravity measures approximately 198.2 inches (5034 mm) in length, 78.7 inches (1999 mm) in width (excluding mirrors), and 65.2 inches (1656 mm) in height, with a wheelbase of 119.5 inches (3035 mm).
  • Equipped with dual electric motors, the Gravity delivers up to 828 horsepower and 909 lb-ft of torque, enabling acceleration from 0 to 60 mph in about 3.5 seconds.
  • The SUV offers an EPA-estimated range of up to 450 miles on a full charge and supports DC fast charging, adding up to 200 miles of range in approximately 11 minutes.

Lucid isn’t just making cars for early adopters anymore; it’s gunning for the core luxury market, converting drivers who once swore by Audi, BMW, and Volvo. If you’re in the market for an EV SUV that feels engineered rather than programmed, the Gravity may just have the pull to change your orbit.

“Drive the Gravity again (and again)… At least then you’ll know.”

Have you had a chance to test drive the Lucid Gravity? We’d love to hear your impressions. What did you think of the design, performance, and overall feel of the car? Do you see yourself purchasing one in the future?
