I Find Some Large SUVs Difficult to Park, Which Is Why the Invisible Hood View in the 2025 Nissan Murano Was So Helpful to Me

Everyone likes to complain about how unhappy they are that SUVs have overtaken the U.S. auto fleet, but then they buy another. And another… Let’s face it: they are darn handy and can do everything a sedan can do but better for around the same cost of ownership. So, on we go.
If you’re like me, you find it tricky to know exactly where the front of your SUV is when parking in difficult situations. This happened to me recently at Boston’s horror show of an excuse for an airport. The spaces at Central Parking are so narrow that door dings are almost guaranteed. The depth of the spaces is so shallow that pulling in or out between two other already-parked vehicles means you need to go very, very slowly at a time when you just want to bolt out of that mess.
The new 2025 Nissan Murano can’t help you with the ever-shrinking world of parking, but it can do one cool trick. It can show you exactly where you are as you pull up tight to a parking spot in which you want to be as far forward as you can possibly get.
Nissan’s novel camera is called Invisible Hood View. It’s similar to many forward-facing cameras found on other SUVs and trucks, but it actually makes the entire front of the vehicle go away magically. The tires remain in the image, along with some guidelines to show you where the ends of the vehicle are in relation to the surroundings. If my explanation lacks clarity, my apologies, but two seconds in the vehicle and you will understand the benefits and be using this view with ease.

Like every new premium SUV, Nissan offers you some amazing surround views in the new 2025 Murano. Our images show off the various ones from which you can select. Our top-of-page image is the Invisible Hood Version. You won’t need any help to use this tool. The cameras automagically turn on when they should, and then you just tap the screen to select which of them you prefer. It’s dead simple.

I used my shed’s entry ramp to try to illustrate the idea behind this new view. You can pull up as far as possible in a parking spot and not damage the front fascia by hitting the curb in front. Or, much worse, overdriving that curb and then having your lower front fascia drop over the back of the lip of the curb. When we parked at the airport, we were able to use this camera for pulling in and also maneuvering in the space so the car would be centered. In real-world use, it is very handy.

What do you think? Does this new camera view seem like a good solution to a widespread problem? Tell us in the comments below.
