Overview With Hyundai’s Genesis luxury brand now firmly established, the maker is wasting little time expanding its footprint into the performance realm. Leading the effort is the Genesis GV60 Magma crossover. Previewed by the GV60 Magma concept, Genesis says the forthcoming GV60 Magma performance variant will share its platform with the current GV60, which is in turn based on the same corporate platform as the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and the Kia EV6. Styling features on the concept include a lowered stance on 21-inch wheels shrouded by large, vented wheel arches, a rear diffuser, and the requisite rear wing. The platform’s performance potential has already been unlocked with the Ioniq 5 N and EV6 GT, but the GV60 will blend any increases in performance with the luxury trimmings the brand is known for. It’s likely the GV60 Magma will share at least some of its hardware with the 641-hp Ioniq 5 N, and a specific chassis tune is all but guaranteed. Although launch timing details are vague, Genesis says the GV60 Magma is “very close to production and will hit the road soon”—a bold statement, as automakers generally keep future production details locked down. What’s New for 2026?In short, everything. The Magma is a new variant on the existing Genesis GV60 and is slated to spearhead the performance sub-brand’s arrival. Word is that Genesis will eventually launch a Magma performance variant of every model in its lineup. Pricing and Which One to Buy The price of the 2026 Genesis GV60 Magma is expected to start around $74,000.GV60 Magma$74,000 (est)Pricing, trim, and option details are still to be revealed, but given the current GV60 Performance trim’s $70,900 MSRP, we think the GV60 Magma will command a price bump to at least the mid-$70,000 range—possibly more if the Performance remains in production alongside the new Magma. There’s also a possibility that Genesis will field a less-expensive version that gets all the Magma performance and exterior styling features but goes light on the tech and luxury to keep the MSRP within reach of buyers more interested in performance than ultimate luxury features. Getting Started with EVsEV Motor, Power, and PerformanceThe current GV60 Performance features a dual-motor setup rated for up to 483 horsepower with the temporary boost activated. The Hyundai Ioniq 5 N dual-motor setup delivers up to 641 hp when its similar N Grin Boost feature is engaged. How Genesis plans to navigate this growingly crowded hierarchy of corporate EV performance remains to be seen, but conventional thought indicates that, as the premium brand, it’ll need to top the Ioniq 5 N’s output, even if just slightly, to keep up appearances. We also expect numerous drive modes, a specific suspension tune with adaptive dampers, and selectable synthesized audio to accompany the nearly silent powertrain. 0–60-MPH Times With the GV60 Magma’s powertrain details still unverified, it’s anyone’s guess. However, the current GV60 Performance hit 60 mph in 3.7 seconds in C/D testing, the 2023 Kia EV6 GT did it in 3.2, and the Ioniq 5 N raced to 60 mph in just 3.0 seconds. Based on that data, it’s a good bet the GV60 Magma will land just north of the 3.0-second mark, and certainly no slower than 3.5 seconds. GenesisMore on the GV60 Magma SUVWarranty and Maintenance CoverageThe Genesis warranty coverage exceeds the typical term limits for the luxury segment. The GV60 Magma should come with powertrain coverage for up to 10 years or 100,000 miles and complimentary scheduled maintenance for three years or 36,000 miles. The Jaguar I-Pace offers similar bumper-to-bumper coverage and longer complimentary maintenance, but that car’s powertrain policy is nearly half the length provided by Genesis. The expected coverages are these:
- Limited warranty covers 5 years or 60,000 miles
- Powertrain warranty covers 10 years or 100,000 miles
- Complimentary maintenance is covered for 3 years or 36,000 miles
