Ford’s unfortunate year of recalls continues, with the automaker issuing a recall order for another 499,129 SUVs. The recall population is split between 84,412 Lincoln MKXs and 414,717 Ford Edges. The Lincoln population spans from the 2016 to 2018 model years, with the Ford population extending from the 2015 to 2018 model years. According to recall documents from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the recall is necessary because of an issue with the rear brake-jounce hose, which can burst and leak brake fluid. Ford reports that it saw a decrease in the rate of repairs (meaning fewer cars were coming in with the issue) after the automaker introduced a more robust material for the inner and outer lining of the brake-jounce hose. In affected cars, drivers might notice a change to the brake pedal feel and travel, meaning that it will take longer to brake. The brake-fluid indicator should also illuminate on the dash if the brake fluid in the master cylinder reservoir gets low enough. Ford is still working on developing a remedy for the problem. Dealers were notified earlier this week, with Ford expecting to send out interim owner notification letters in early September.
