Elon Musk Responds to Accusations Tesla Speeds Up Odometers to Avoid Warranty Repairs

A recent class action lawsuit filed in California alleges that Tesla has been inflating odometer readings on its vehicles, enabling the company to avoid repairs under its capped mileage warranty.
Tesla provides a limited warranty on all its vehicles, covering them for 4 years or 50,000 miles, whichever occurs first.
According to the lawsuit filed by a 2020 Tesla Model Y owner, he accuses Tesla of speeding up his odometer to avoid paying for the $10,000 repairs needed after his suspension failed.
The Model Y owner states that some days he only drove 27 miles, but his Model Y indicates that he has driven over 70 miles.
This is certainly a major accusation, and now Elon Musk has responded to those who are taking the lawsuit at face value and have already made up their minds that Tesla is indeed participating in this shady activity.
Musk made his comment in response to X users “Political Reality” and “Whole Mars Catalog,” who engaged in a debate where Political Reality criticized Tesla while Whole Mars Catalog supported the electric vehicle manufacturer.
Political reality started the back-and-forth writing on X…

“Breaking: Tesla speeds up odometers to avoid warranty repairs, U.S. lawsuit claims
If true, it could literally be the end of $TSLA as we know it.”

Below the post, Political Reality included a link to a CNBC article going over the details of the lawsuit.
This certainly did not make Tesla supporters happy, and Omar Qazi, who goes by the username Whole Mars Catalog on X, replied to Political Reality’s post with his own rebuttal.
Omar, who is a Tesla investor and a huge Tesla and Elon Musk fan, responded sharply, writing…

“You morons will fall for anything.
There is zero evidence of Tesla speeding up their odometers. The article you cite mentions a lawsuit from some guy who wanted a repair done under warranty.
The plaintiff says Tesla’s odometers are based on energy usage and “predictive algorithms” rather than actual mileage driven. But that is completely wrong.
Range estimates are based on energy usage and predictive algorithms.
The odometer is based on actual miles driven. Anyone can test this themselves.
But just to be sure, it’s better to go short Tesla stock anyway. This could be your big break, buddy.”

Omar doesn’t seem to believe there is any evidence supporting the claim that Tesla is engaged in this activity, and in response to Whole Mars Catalog’s lengthy rebuttal, Elon Musk has also come out and denied these accusations.
Similar to Whole Mars Catalog, Musk responded sharply to the accusations that Tesla speeds up odometers to avoid warranty repairs.
Musk simply wrote…

“This is idiotic.”

This is idiotic

Musk appears to categorically deny these accusations, and based on the comments, Tesla enthusiasts and supporters of Elon seem convinced that Tesla did not manipulate the vehicle’s odometers to void the warranty prematurely.

However, some people who mistrust Elon Musk were unconvinced and shared their thoughts that he and his companies are capable of committing such a bad deed.
