It is with deep respect and heartfelt gratitude that we at WAF, honour the life of Mr. Goh Cheng Liang, Owner Wuthelam Holdings, Nipsea Group & Nippon Paint
From humble beginnings in a small rented room in Singapore, Mr. Goh built his first paint business from surplus barrels of military paint in 1949. Ten years later, his vision and determination led to a partnership with Nippon Paint of Japan—planting the seed for what would become NIPSEA Group in 1962.
Under his leadership, Nippon Paint grew from a single operation into Asia’s No. 1 paint and coatings company, serving millions of customers via 148 companies across more than 28 countries and growing.
His belief was simple but powerful: “quality is not just in the product, but in the relationships you build.”
Beyond business, Mr. Goh dedicated his life to giving back. Through the Goh Foundation, he funded hospitals, cancer research, education, and community development—touching countless lives in Singapore, across Asia, and in his ancestral village in Chaozhou.
Those who worked with him will remember his humility, quiet wisdom, and unwavering belief in building things that last—whether it was a wall, a company, or a legacy.
Anuj Guglani, CEO, World Auto Forum commented, ‘As Nipsea Group & Nippon Paint continue to grow and innovate, it’s even more imperative to honour his memory by holding true to the values he personified and instilled : integrity, partnership, quality, and care for the community.’
Mr. Goh’s journey reminds us that even the boldest visions can begin with the smallest brushstrokes. His life’s work will remain the foundation—and the colour—of our collective future.
