Nedyalko Gerontiev, a Tesla Model Y owner from Washington, DC, reports that he recently drove his all-electric crossover for four hours to go to the beach with his family.
Nedyalko reports he experienced no issues during the drive. However, while they were at the beach, the vehicle suddenly displayed error messages about cabin climate control and became undrivable.
After the Model Y broke down, Tesla sent a tow truck to take the vehicle to the nearest service center. This left Nedyalko and his family stranded on the beach, four hours from home, with their trip equipment in hand.
This was bad enough, but Nedyalko also shared that once they returned to Washington, DC, their nearest service center refused to provide a loaner car, forcing him to Uber to work for an entire week.
Again, this was frustrating, but things got even worse from there. Nedyalko says that after a week, he was told the Model Y was fixed and drove four hours to the service center by the beach to pick up his vehicle.
On the way home, he tried to fill up his battery at a supercharger, but the Model Y wouldn’t fast charge. As he had already started the drive home, Nedyalko spent the night on the road charging his vehicle at a slow charger.
After charging overnight, Nedyalko says he barely made it to the service center close to his house.
Up to this point, a lot of things have already gone terribly; however, despite these frustrating failures, things got more absurd once he got to his local Tesla service center.
The Tesla service center refused to take his Model Y in for service without a schedule because the vehicle could still be charged by a slow charger.
Nedyalko admitted he was so angry at this point that he asked for a manager, who thankfully agreed to fix his Model Y.
After everything that happened over the past week and a half, Nedyalko says that while he was once a big Tesla fan, he’s now done with the EV maker.
He also mentioned he plans to sell his Tesla and buy a reliable vehicle from another brand.
The frustrated Model Y owner shared his story on the Tesla Club Facebook group.
He writes…
“Done with Tesla!
I used to be the biggest Tesla fan. I even preordered a Model 3 before it was released. But after two years of owning a 2023 Model Y Long Range, problems started.
Last weekend, on a trip to the beach, the car died in a parking lot (it displayed the messages in the photo below). Tesla towed it, and we were stranded in a parking lot at 100 degrees.
We had to Uber everywhere and even ask strangers to take us back home to DC. I took Uber to work all week because they couldn’t provide a loaner since I didn’t stay until Monday in Norfolk, Virginia.
After a week, I drove back down to Norfolk (4 hours) to pick up the Model Y. They replaced a front control module, but after I got it back, I went to a supercharger and it wouldn’t charge.

We had to wait another night for a slow charger to fully charge so we could get home. We barely made it to the local dealer in Tysons (at 8%), and they said we couldn’t leave it at service today because the vehicle was still charging.
I had to ask for a manager, and finally, they accepted it. How ridiculous!
Just a few months ago, the driver’s side window shattered when I was closing the door due to a faulty mechanism.
The car is still being worked on. Let’s see what they come up with next… Done being a $60K Tesla experiment sponsoring Mars trips. I’m switching to a trusted, reliable car brand!”
Below his post, Nedyalko included a picture from his Model Y center screen showing the error message he got before his crossover died.
The error message reads…
- “Cabin climate control system requires service
Cabin heating/cooling limited or unavailable
- Electrical system is unable to support all features
Switching off features to conserve energy
- Electrical system power reduced
Vehicle shutting down
This is definitely frustrating; however, looking at the comments, fellow Tesla owners pushed back against Nedyalko for suggesting he’ll be buying another vehicle from another reliable and trusted brand.
A fellow Tesla owner, Esquimo Gabe, writes…
“I own two Teslas, a Model S and a Model Y. No issues. I would never switch to another brand. Tesla is so far ahead of any other company, it’s not even close.”
A second Tesla owner, Rod, says…
“Teslas are not for the weak. Still better than a Ford. You’ll probably get the Mustang Mach 3 EV and end up back at the superchargers.”
A third Tesla owner, Jose J Plaz, testily responded simply by writing “Bye.”
Overall, looking at the comments, fellow Tesla owners don’t seem happy with the suggestion that Tesla vehicles aren’t reliable. However, please let me know what you think in the comments.
