A Tesla Cybertruck owner from Austin, Texas, says that he was recently involved in an accident in which his truck was hit from behind.
This is certainly not an ideal situation; however, following the accident, his wife, who was in the vehicle at the time, now says she wants to get a Cybertruck of her own.
The Cybertruck owner reports that he was driving down the highway when the vehicle in front of him suddenly changed lanes, revealing several stopped cars ahead.
Understanding the situation, Tesla’s full self-driving software began to brake sharply, and the Cybertruck owner quickly took over to apply the brakes himself.
He states he went from driving 55 miles per hour to a complete stop in about 50 feet.
The Cybertruck owner was impressed by how quickly his truck was able to stop.
However, regrettably, the Toyota driving behind him was unable to stop in time.
Realizing he wouldn’t make it, the Toyota driver attempted to swerve right to avoid a collision.
Sadly, the Toyota ended up smashing into the Cybertruck’s tailgate at the right corner.
Getting rear-ended on the highway is frightening for most people; however, the Cybertruck owner claims that neither he nor his wife even noticed their vehicle had been hit from behind.
After experiencing the vehicle’s sturdiness, the Cybertruck owner shares that his wife now wants her own Cybertruck following the accident.
The happy Cybertruck owner shared his story on the Tesla Cybertruck Owners group on Facebook.
He writes…
“I had my first accident in my Cybertruck. The truck in front of me was cruising along and then quickly moved to the left lane because it was speeding toward a line of stopped cars that we couldn’t see.
As soon as he swerved, FSD started to brake hard. I took over and brought the speed down quickly, going from about 55 mph to 0 in about 50 feet.
The poor Toyota behind me couldn’t stop fast enough, but he swerved to the right and clipped me. My wife and I hardly felt it.
Below is a picture of what the aftermath of the accident looks like. I’m pretty sure I could just bend the stainless back, but hey. It’s on his insurance.
Hopefully, the accident didn’t break the seal, and I can still float someday. Lol. Now my wife wants one because she saw how amazing it is and how safe we both felt.”
Below his post, the Cybertruck owner included a few pictures showcasing the damage to his truck and the Toyota that collided with him.
As you can see, the front end of the Toyota that struck him is pretty banged up; the bumper, hood, turn signal lights, and fender are all damaged.
In contrast, the Cybertruck appears to be in much better shape. The stainless steel covering the outside of the bed is bent, but aside from that, the truck appears to be in very good condition.
Looking at the comments, the first thing fellow Cybertruck owners noted was that the Cybertruck, while only slightly damaged, would be costly and time-consuming to repair.
They also highlighted that the insurance company would likely argue that the accident was the fault of the Cybertruck owner due to hard braking.
However, the Cybertruck owner responded, arguing that his hard braking can’t be considered an issue because he was able to come to a complete stop with 24 inches to spare between him and the vehicle in front of him.
The Cybertruck owner, at the same time, also shared his appreciation for Tesla and the Cybertruck’s brakes for preventing a major accident.
He writes…
“I’d like to say I braked too hard, but I stopped with about 24 inches between me and the car in front of me. If my Cybertruck hadn’t had great brakes, it could have been worse.
Now the damage is just a minor bend on the truck. Thank you, Tesla.”
For those concerned about lengthy repairs, the Cybertruck owner reassures that this isn’t a problem. Despite the cosmetic damage, the vehicle remains fully drivable. He can simply use his Cybertruck until Tesla has the necessary parts to make repairs.
He writes…
“As for the timing, it’s a first-gen and still totally drivable, so no rush.”
Overall, the Cybertruck owner and his wife appear pleased with how their Cybertruck performed during the accident.
