A Tesla Cybertruck owner from New Jersey, who wishes to remain anonymous, says his local car wash refuses to clean his truck.
The owner explains he recently took his dirty Cybertruck to the car wash, but the staff waved him away from the automatic car wash line.
The car wash operator provided a vague explanation, suggesting that his truck might be too wide or too tall, and advised him to find an alternative location.
If size were truly the issue, that would make sense; however, the Cybertruck owner mentions that he has seen other large vehicles, including Range Rovers and Mercedes G-Wagons, go through the same wash without any problems.
Additionally, he mentions that he owns another large vehicle, a BMW X7, which he has also successfully taken through the same car wash.
Now, he’s wondering if he was refused service because the operator doesn’t like Elon Musk.
The frustrated Cybertruck owner shared his story in the Cybertruck Owners Only group on Facebook.
He writes…
“My local car wash just waved me off and motioned that my Cybertruck was too tall or large to fit.
It seems odd, since I’ve definitely seen Range Rovers, G-Wagons, and my own BMW X7 fit…
Do you think he’s an anti-Elon guy?”
Although this is an intriguing theory, comments from other Cybertruck owners indicate that they did not view the car wash operator’s actions as anti-Elon Musk sentiment.
A fellow Cybertruck owner, Thai Chau, writes…
“I’m not sure about Elon hate, but it’s a fact that our Cybertrucks are rougher on their rollers and brushes. The cantrail, where it meets the fender, always catches those threads.”
Another Cybertruck owner, Randen Montalvo, seconded this sentiment, writing…
“No, the Cybertruck is just a lot of truck to clean. Move on.”
A third Cybertruck owner, David Enders, commented:
“It’s wider than all of those cars you mentioned.”
In response, the original Cybertruck owner from New Jersey agrees that it might not necessarily be anti-Elon Musk sentiment. However, he mentions that he doesn’t want to clean the truck himself and is unsure what to do next.
He asked:
“I’m too lazy to clean it. Where should I go?”
A fellow Cybertruck owner, Ejr Doe, responds, saying there are other options.
Ejr writes…

“I’m not sure, but it’s probably fear of liability; however, other car washes are available.
Since it’s a private business, employees are likely just following orders. Did you try speaking directly with the owner or franchise manager?
Making assumptions won’t get you very far, but going straight to the source will provide you with real answers.
As a business owner myself (I run three businesses), I find it frustrating when clients jump to conclusions based on what they see or hear online. It happens to me quite often.”
However, the New Jersey Cybertruck owner insists that he’s certain it was the car wash owner who denied him service.
He wrote:
“I was in the queue and was driving toward the back entrance, and the owner is the one who waved me away.”
He also states he recognizes the owner because he has been to the same car wash multiple times with his other vehicles.
He added:
“I have been there many times with my other cars. It’s in New Jersey.”
Most Cybertruck owners think it’s unlikely the car wash owner refused to clean the vehicle due to anti-Elon Musk feelings. Still, they admit that even if automatic washes were an option, many wouldn’t feel comfortable using them.
A fellow Cybertruck owner, Jason Rice, writes:
“I wouldn’t take it through one honestly anyway. Tesla recommends not doing it in the owner’s manual, doesn’t it?”
Another Cybertruck owner, Suzette Johnson-Brown, added:
“I would be terrified if the wheels came out of the track.”
A third Cybertruck owner shared his own experience, saying his wheel slipped off the tracks while going through an automatic car wash, tearing apart his wheel arch.
He wrote:
“My Cybertruck slipped off the track. It was awful.”
Below his post, he shared a photo of his damaged Cybertruck at the car wash, with the wheel arch completely torn off.
