Lilly Darling, a Cybertruck owner from Boston, Massachusetts, reports that her truck has recently begun exhibiting strange behaviors.
Lilly explains that her truck’s alarm goes off unexpectedly in the middle of the night or while she’s at work, and she finds the Cybertruck door mysteriously open even though she’s sure she didn’t leave it ajar.
Lilly states that the truck’s sentry camera footage doesn’t show anyone approaching the Cybertruck before the doors automatically open, and they set off the alarm.
This is certainly an unusual behavior, and Lilly admits she doesn’t know what is causing it, but she notes that the issue started the night she had her Cybertruck’s windows tinted.
Lilly is unsure whether tinting her truck windows could be causing the doors to act this way.
Nevertheless, the curious Cybertruck owner shared her story on the Cybertruck Owners Only group on Facebook.
She writes…
“Hi everyone! I got my Cybertruck a month ago, and I’m completely in LOVE.
So yesterday, I had the windows tinted, came home, and everything was fine.
However, at 4:30 this morning, my alarm went off loudly, indicating the door was open!
I went outside, and the Cybertruck’s door was slightly ajar. I checked my cameras—no human activity—and the door was locked.
It happened again at my work parking lot 10 minutes ago! Has anyone experienced this??
I added the picture just for fun! I know my Cybertruck needs a wash.”
Below her post, Lilly included two pictures of her Cybertruck parked at her workplace following the latest unexplained door incident.
A door that opens on its own repeatedly is definitely unusual; however, surprisingly, many other Cybertruck owners reported that they have also faced similar issues with their doors.
Similar to Lilly’s case, these owners said the problems began after they had their windows tinted.
Cybertruck owner Jay Miller shares…
“The same thing happened to me when I tinted my Cybertruck windows.
I ended up taking it in for service at Tesla, and they fully covered the cost of the replacement parts. I drive the Cybertruck AWD.”
Another Cybertruck owner, Dominic Marchetti, echoes this sentiment, saying…

“It happened to me a few times the day I had my Cybertruck windows tinted. I left it in the sun, and it didn’t happen again.”
A lot of owners believe that during the tinting process, water may have entered behind the door panel and damaged the electronics that control the door.
Since the Cybertruck’s doors are partially motorized, a malfunctioning switch can cause the door to unlock and slightly open on its own.
Supporters of this theory, like Cybertruck owner Jerry Suddarth, explain…
“Water got in the door. It happened to my Cybertruck and many others. I left mine in the sun for a day, and it dried out without any other problems.”
Another Cybertruck owner, Geebao Du, comments…
“Sounds like your tint guy got water in the switches.”
Vince Sorrentino adds…
“Water from the tint job got on some switches. Should dry out.”
Saurabh Pathak suggests…
“Leave it in the sun for 3 days…all will be ok..make sure to turn off the interior overheat protection.”
These are the owners who believe that during the tinting process, water got in behind the door panel and damaged the electronics controlling the door.
However, others have proposed much more mysterious theories, suggesting that ghosts or aliens are responsible for the strange door-opening behavior.
A fellow Cybertruck owner, Carl Merk, writes…
“It’s aliens trying to ride the Cybertruck.”
Another Cybertruck owner, Sam Carlile, states…
“It’s ghosts for sure!”
