John Schnyder, a Cybertruck owner from New Orleans, says he was recently shot on the highway simply for driving a Cybertruck.
John explains that a man he had never met before drove next to him, shouted vulgarities, and began throwing objects at his Cybertruck.
Eventually, the other driver pulled out a pistol and shot at John’s Cybertruck while he was inside.
This situation is definitely frightening; however, John states that his Cybertruck stopped the bullet, which crumpled upon impact against the truck’s stainless steel exterior.
The concerned Cybertruck owner shared his story on the Cybertruck Owners Only group on Facebook.
He writes…
“Man, y’all be careful. Some Tesla hater shot at my truck last night after giving me the finger and throwing things at my Cybertruck on the interstate!
However, the truck took the incident like a champ and crumpled the bullet on impact!”
This is definitely a bizarre incident; however, even more surprisingly, John says the shooting took place very close to a police station.
John continues to write…
“It happened two blocks from the police station when I exited the bridge, so they have him on the license plate reader as well as the crime camera.”
Finally, John concludes his post, saying thankfully, he didn’t have his pistol with him, which he carries regularly, or things would have escalated.
Below his post, John shared a video of the incident.
In the video captured by the Cybertruck’s sentry cameras, you can see a white sedan driving in front of John’s Cybertruck for a while.
The incident occurred at night, making visibility difficult; however, the sedan can be seen swerving several times and brake-checking John repeatedly.
Since this was nighttime sentry footage, it was also hard to see the exact moment the weapon was discharged, but John shared a picture of his Cybertruck showing the impact after the shooting.
As you can see, the Cybertruck’s stainless steel was thankfully not pierced by the bullet, but the steel has been gouged, indicating it was hit with significant force.
This is definitely concerning, and looking at the comments, fellow Cybertruck owners asked for more details about the incident.
In response, John writes…

“The perp only shot once as I was rolling off the bridge. Police found a 9mm shell casing at the scene of the shooting.
It looks like only one shot was fired, and it seems like it skipped somehow. I’m not sure; I left it up to the police officers.”
John continues to write…
“I actually pulled over because the guy was following me for about 6 miles from where he first started antagonizing and brake-checking me, as well as throwing stuff at my truck.
When I pulled over, that’s when he fired at me, and I saw the gunfire myself as he discharged it. Cops claim to have a license plate reader at the exit where I got off the interstate, as well as the real-time crime center cameras, which should have identified him.
However, this happened on Thursday, and I haven’t heard anything about the incident yet, just an item number. They wrote it as aggravated assault.”
The perpetrator not being apprehended is definitely concerning. However, this incident took place two weeks ago; today, John came back with an update saying the cops have identified the assailant and a warrant has been issued for his arrest.
John writes…
“Hey guys, just wanted to update everyone—they’ve located the guy who shot at my truck with me inside and have issued an arrest warrant!”
This whole situation is concerning; however, in the comments, multiple Cybertruck owners shared that they also live in fear of facing a similar attack on the roads.
A fellow Cybertruck owner, Yoh Ann, writes…
“This is what I have been afraid would happen to me. I wish we could sue the Democrat politicians for inciting these people and putting Tesla owners in danger.”
Another Cybertruck owner, Michael McCreary, writes…
“Never leave your house without your gun. In fact, when I’m in my Cybertruck, I carry extra.”
A third Cybertruck owner, Michael Houx, says he bought a gun specifically to keep in his truck.
Michael writes…
“I bought one specifically to be carried in my Cybertruck.”
