Peter Truong, a Cybertruck owner from Palm Beach, Florida, recently dropped off his truck at Tesla service to fix an issue with his driver’s door, which vibrates when driving at high speeds.
This was normal enough; however, the first surprising update Peter got was that Tesla had decided to replace his entire driver’s side door to deal with the vibration issue.
This seems like overkill for a simple vibration issue; however, what came next was even more baffling.
While Tesla had Peter’s Cybertruck at the service center, a representative from the company contacted him via the Tesla app to apologize for scratching his window tint during the door replacement.
Tesla was apologetic and even offered to reimburse Peter immediately; however, one issue was that Peter did not have an aftermarket tint on his vehicle.
Even stranger, Peter is the sole owner of his Cybertruck and took delivery of it directly from Tesla.
This has left Peter scratching his head, wondering if Tesla accidentally replaced someone else’s Cybertruck door and if the EV maker has lost his truck.
The confused Cybertruck owner shared his story on the Tesla Cybertruck Owners group on Facebook.
He writes…
“I went in for the light bar installation and to address the vibration in the driver’s side door at high speeds. This might get interesting…”
Below his post, Peter included a screenshot from his Tesla app showing his conversation with a Tesla representative.
A Tesla rep texts Peter saying…
“I wanted to provide you with a quick update on your Cybertruck. It’s currently in the final stages of service and nearly complete.
During the replacement of the door, our technician unfortunately scratched the tint on the driver’s side window. We sincerely apologize for this oversight and any inconvenience it may cause.
To make things right, we will reimburse you for the cost of replacing the tint.
Once you’ve picked up your vehicle, please have the tint reapplied at your convenience and email us a copy of the invoice. We’ll promptly process the reimbursement for you.
Thank you for your understanding, and please don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions.”
Peter responds by writing…
“The window is not tinted….. it sounds like the glass is scratched”
At this point, you would think Tesla would realize they have made an error, but the EV maker’s representative doubled down and insisted that Peter’s Cybertruck indeed has a tint.
The Tesla rep responds, writing…
“Hello, your front driver door glass has an aftermarket window tint installed. We will reimburse you once you have it reprinted to rectify. Thank you.”
In response, Peter writes…
“Very strange, I did not have the windows tinted, and I am the original owner. Unless I bought it from Tesla and they installed the tint, which I doubt. Are there pictures?
Are we sure we are in the right truck?”
This is definitely interesting, and regrettably, Tesla employees are out for the weekend, and the EV maker only responded to Peter with an automated text that reads…
“Thank you for reaching out. We are currently closed, but will respond to your inquiry during operating hours. We appreciate your patience and look forward to assisting you soon.”
Looking at the comments, the first thing fellow Cybertruck owners wanted to know was if Peter bought his truck used.
In response, Peter reiterated he bought his truck directly from Tesla, writing…
“Nope, I’m the original owner.”
Tesla and Peter definitely find themselves in an interesting conundrum. However, please let me know what you think in the comments.
