A Cybertruck Owner Says Tesla Pulled a Fast One on Him – He Adds, “I Bought Winter Tires but Tesla Gave Me a Complete Set With Wheels and Sensors”

Ken, a Tesla Cybertruck owner from Kansas, says he was surprised when he went to pick up his new winter tires from Tesla.

Ken ordered and paid for four winter tires through the Tesla app. However, while waiting to pick them up, Tesla staff informed him that he would also receive wheels, TPMS sensors, and full installation and balancing services, not just the tires.

The delighted Tesla owner shared his experience on the Cybertruck Owners Club forum.

He writes…

“Tesla pulls a fast one with tires!

Like many others here, I had some extra Tesla store credits from last year’s PowerShare install rebates.

I wasn’t sure what to do with the credits, but finally decided to order a set of winter tires, which cost about the same as my credit. Those tires are listed here in the Tesla shop.

The ordering process requires going through the app to set up a service appointment, so I did that.

Once I received a message from the service team, I responded in the app that I didn’t need the tires installed—I just wanted to pick them up, take them home, and store them for winter, when I would have my regular tires removed and the winter tires installed at a local shop.

The service team said that was perfectly fine and told me to come in anytime on that day to pick them up.

That day was yesterday, so I arrived around 12:30 to collect my tires. I spoke with the person at the service desk, who asked me, “Do you want all the parts loaded into your truck or do you want us to assemble them?” – Huh? I replied. What do you mean?

The service person then explained, ‘Well, do you want the wheels, tires, and TPMS sensors loaded separately into the bed of your truck, or do you want us to install the sensors and mount and balance the tires before taking them?

Say what? I thought I ordered four tires?

Nope, you’re getting the winter tire and wheel package.

Ummm, okay. Is there any charge for assembling them? Nope, that’s all included— zero cost to you. Do you want us to do it?

Uhhh, yes, please. Okay, go have a seat in the waiting area… Roger that! Some time later, they rolled out my truck with four complete winter tires and wheels ready for me to take home and store in my garage.

I’m not sure why Tesla did this, but the service person assured me it was correct. It seems like I’ve saved a significant amount of money, and switching to winter tires has become a whole lot easier, as I can simply remove my regular wheels and mount the winter ones.

I have no idea if Tesla will do this for others, but if you’re considering a set of tires, you could order what I did and see what shows up. You could be pleasantly surprised, like I was!

Thank you, Tesla! You never cease to amaze me!”

Paying for tires but receiving a full wheel set is definitely a pleasant surprise.

And looking at the Tesla online shop, it’s easy to see why Ken thought he was only getting tires and not the entire wheel set.

Tesla clearly states on its website that the $485 price is for one Goodyear DuraTrac RT tire, and the price for four tires is $1,940.

Additionally, the images Tesla shares on the product page are only of the winter tires and do not include wheels.

If this wasn’t enough on the website, Tesla explicitly writes…

“Description

Cybertruck Goodyear DuraTrac RT Tire ($485): For pickup at Tesla Service Centers only, installation not included.

Included:

1x 285/65R20 Goodyear DuraTrac RT Tire”

Making matters even more strange, Tesla also offers a complete winter tire and wheel package. Unlike the $1,940 that Ken paid, Tesla sells the full set for $3,250.

This is certainly odd; however, looking at the comments, fellow Cybertruck owners congratulated Ken.

A fellow Cybertruck owner writes…

“Congrats! That has to be a $1,000 mistake on Tesla’s part, to your benefit!”

Another Cybertruck owner writes…

“Someone definitely messed up. It is clear you should have only gotten the rubber.”

A third Cybertruck owner shared a screenshot from the Tesla online shop showing the full winter tire and Cyber Wheel set, which costs $3,250.

Tesla, in the description for the complete winter tire package, writes…

“Cybertruck 20″ Cyber Wheel and Winter Tire Package

($3,250)

Includes:

4x Cyber Wheels

4x 285/65R20 Goodyear DuraTrac Tires

4x BLE tire pressure sensors and nuts”
