Brad Hannah, a Cybertruck owner from Texas, says his truck stopped charging after he installed the latest Tesla software update.
Brad was in bed when he received the error message informing him that his Cybertruck had stopped charging.
Curious, he went to the garage and tried various methods to get the truck charging again.
Brad says he rebooted his Cybertruck several times and tried turning it on and off, but it still wouldn’t charge.
Thinking the issue might be related to the home charger, Brad drove to a Tesla supercharger that same night.
However, when he arrived at the supercharger, he realized the Cybertruck still would not charge.
At that point, he decided to go home and handle the problem the next morning; however, on his way back, his truck broke down.
Brad shares that he got the infamous “red screen of death,” indicating a critical error that required him to pull over immediately.
Brad then contacted Tesla’s roadside assistance, which he reports arrived quickly.
However, he encountered an unusual predicament here. Tesla’s roadside assistance offered to tow his Cybertruck to the nearest service center, but since he was far from home, the closest Tesla service station was not the same as the one closest to his house.
Tesla’s roadside assistance gave him two options: either to have the truck towed to a nearby service station or to have it towed to his house, with the option to have it towed to a service station of his choice the next day.
Brad opted for the second option, which would require two tow trucks. Since his Cybertruck wasn’t initially taken to a service station, Tesla informed him he’d need to pay for the first tow service out of pocket.
This was definitely frustrating, and to make matters worse, after getting his Cybertruck towed from his house to the nearest service station, Brad still faces a two-hour drive to reach it.
This is definitely not ideal, and now Brad is wondering if the software update caused all these problems.
The frustrated Cybertruck owner shared his story on the Cybertruck Owners Only group on Facebook.
He writes…
“Welp… guess it’s my turn. I’m about to face the realities of living 2.5 hours away from a service center.
My Cybertruck stopped charging at home randomly while I was still in bed this morning. Reboots didn’t help.
I thought I’d try a supercharger. When that didn’t work, I decided to bring it home, and suddenly these pulsing red warnings appeared.

Tesla Roadside Assistance had it towed to my house for the night. A tow truck is coming tomorrow to take it to the nearest service center.
Interestingly enough, taking it out of Performance mode cleared the warnings, but it still won’t charge.
Also interesting: I installed the latest update yesterday. Likely unrelated, but the timing feels odd.”
Below his post, Brad shared several pictures of his Cybertruck’s center touch screen as his truck broke down.
As you can see, the center touch screen is flashing red with the “pull-over safely” warning.
And digging a bit into the error message, Brad saw these messages…
- Rear right motor power reduced
Exiting and re-entering the vehicle may restore operation
- Powertrain requires service
Vehicle speed and power may be limited
- Rear left motor power reduced
Exiting and re-entering vehicle may restore operation
- Powertrain requires service
Vehicle speed and power may be limited
- Power reduced
This is definitely not ideal; however, looking at the comments, multiple Cybertruck owners shared they, too, have faced similar failures recently.
A fellow Cybertruck owner from New Jersey writes…
“I had the exact same issue last Saturday night while traveling. I left my car at the New Jersey Tesla service center. I’m waiting for their response.”
Another Cybertruck, Smugglers Runs, writes…
“I just had the same issue. They replaced the whole PCM system.”
Three similar failures in a short timeframe is not enough to conclusively link the latest software update to the issues. Still, feel free to share your thoughts in the comments.
