David, a Cybertruck owner from Houston, Texas, says that before choosing a Cybertruck, he was looking to buy any large vehicle for work.
The main reason David wanted to buy a vehicle was to take advantage of bonus depreciation, which allows him to deduct the vehicle’s cost from his taxable income.
To qualify for bonus depreciation, the vehicle must primarily be used for work and have a gross vehicle weight rating of over 6000 lbs.
This means when David went vehicle shopping, he had many large vehicles to choose from, and he says the Cybertruck wasn’t even on his list.
Initially, David considered vehicles like the Porsche Cayenne, Range Rover, Cadillac IQ, and Lamborghini Urus.
However, while at a shopping mall, he happened to stumble into a Tesla showroom. There, Tesla had a Cybertruck on display. David says that while his wife was shopping, he started discussing the Cybertruck with a Tesla representative.
The Tesla rep invited David to take a Cybertruck for a test drive. This is routine; however, David appreciated that the sales rep didn’t pressure him to buy the vehicle.
The sales rep simply handed David the keycard, told him to be back in two hours, and allowed him to test drive the vehicle in peace.
When David returned from his test drive after two hours, he said again that there was no pressure for him to buy the Cybertruck.
In fact, David mentioned to the Tesla representative that he intended to visit different dealerships to see other vehicles. To his surprise, the Tesla representative offered him a Tesla Model X to drive overnight while he continued exploring other options.
David says he found it amusing telling FSD “drive to the Porsche dealership,” in a Tesla loaner car.
After visiting other dealerships and checking out several vehicles, David decided to purchase a Cybertruck.
He adds that the friendly sales team, the no-pressure sales approach, the Cybertruck’s steer-by-wire system, and FSD were what ultimately convinced him to buy a Cybertruck.
The happy Cybertruck buyer shared his experience on the Cybertruck Owners Club forum.
He writes…
“Bonus Depreciation Leads to Cybertruck Obsession
I was looking for a work vehicle to take advantage of the bonus depreciation, and honestly, Tesla wasn’t initially even a consideration. I was looking at the Porsche Cayenne, Range Rover, Cadillac IQ, and even briefly considered a Lamborghini Urus.
I was walking around the mall with my wife, and while she was shopping, I accidentally stumbled into the Tesla dealership. They had a Cybertruck on the floor, and I started a conversation with the Tesla representative (I don’t think they call them salespeople).

He said, “Hey, just take one for a drive,” handed me the key card, gave me two minutes of instructions, and told me to be back in two hours.
First, I’ve never had an experience like that at a car dealership—no pressure, no BS, just “here’s the keys.”
I have to say I was blown away by the acceleration, the handling, and most of all, the FSD.
I picked up my wife, and we drove around, and even she loved it. I returned the car and told the guy I was going to look at the other models I mentioned earlier. He said, “Why don’t you take a Model X to go car shopping,” and set me up with one for the NIGHT! Who does that? The Model X drove me to all the other dealers—”take me to the Porsche dealer” (FSD is unreal)—and after test-driving everything, it wasn’t even close.
All the other cars were great, but the bottom line is that they’re just different variations of each other—some faster, some smoother, with nicer interiors. The Cybertruck is like stepping into an episode of The Jetsons.
The steer-by-wire and FSD totally clinched it, not to mention the Cybertruck seems so much more functional (large bed size, electric outlets, etc).
Even the buying experience was amazing, as you basically complete the entire process on the app. I took advantage of their 0% financing, and the paperwork literally took under five minutes. Overall, just an incredible experience.
I NEVER thought I would buy a Cybertruck—or really any EV—and I am totally addicted to this truck.
I have owned some of the highest-end models from nearly every brand, and this is easily the best, most fun vehicle I have ever owned (so far).
I read a lot about how it’s a flop and not selling well, and I watched all the videos about how the initial quality was not the best, but even with all that, the truck was so much better than everything else I drove that I went for it.
I’m willing to put up with some quirks and possible problems that might come with it. My biggest problem with it is my compulsion to buy accessories; I probably have four or five packages a day arriving, and I think it confuses our Amazon delivery guy, who probably previously thought my wife was the only one living here. I just can’t wait to get it wrapped!
This is certainly a happy experience for a Cybertruck buyer, and looking at the comments, multiple Cybertruck owners shared that a similarly positive test drive experience is what led them to buy a Cybertruck.
A fellow Cybertruck owner from Chicago writes…
“You’re pretty much like all of us here. I never drove a Tesla before a Cybertruck, and the moment I did, it was an epiphany of sorts. Everything just made sense. Add in the bold looks, and the vehicle is perfect for my daily use.”
Another Cybertruck owner, Phill from New Jersey, says…
“Same here, — I had never driven an EV before my Cybertruck.”
Overall, a lot of Cybertruck owners seem to be sold on the vehicle after a test drive. However, please let me know what you think in the comments.
