Gary Mitchell, a Cybertruck owner from Detroit, Michigan, says he took delivery of his truck just three weeks ago, but Tesla sold him a Cybertruck manufactured in mid-2024.
At first, Gary didn’t think this was a problem. However, after bringing his “new” truck home, he noticed that leaving the Cybertruck in a lot with the doors closed for a year caused some damage.
Gary suspects that, with the Cybertruck sitting unopened for so long, off-gassing from the interior materials occurred, and the trapped gases ended up sticking to the inside of the windows.
Gary mentions that it took significant effort to clean the off-gassing from the glass surfaces; however, despite his best efforts, he couldn’t prevent the cameras from getting occluded.
Now, his front cameras aren’t functioning properly, and he’s getting multiple warnings on his center touch screen indicating that the camera visibility is limited and advising him to clean it.
Gary explains that on the right side, the camera housing doesn’t seal properly around the windshield, allowing off-gassing to enter the housing and fog the front cameras.
Prompted by ongoing limited camera visibility warnings, Gary says he has scheduled a service appointment at the Tesla service center in Detroit, but he couldn’t get an appointment before October 10, 2025.
The frustrated Cybertruck owner shared his story on the Cybertruck Owners Only group on Facebook.
He writes…
“I picked up my Cybertruck three weeks ago. Best I can tell from the VIN, it was manufactured in mid-2024.
I had trouble cleaning the windshield, which had become dirty from off-gassing after sitting unopened for months.
Anyway, I keep getting a warning on the touchscreen to clean the front camera.
I can see it’s fogged up from the off-gassing, and the right side of the cover is loose, so that’s how it got in there.
I put in a service request to fix that and a few other minor trim issues. I’m in the metro Detroit area. They gave me an October 10th appointment.
Is every service center that booked up? Why wouldn’t this be a mobile service call for something so minor?”
Below his post, Gary shared a picture of his Cybertruck’s touchscreen showing the ongoing error message he’s been getting, which reads…
“Camera Visibility Limited
Clean all dirt and debris from the camera.”

This is definitely not ideal, especially for a “brand-new” vehicle; however, looking at the comments, fellow Cybertruck owners pushed back against blaming Tesla too much.
A fellow Cybertruck owner, Nick Reynolds, writes…
“Why wouldn’t you clean it yourself? Why visit the Tesla service center for something so minor?”
In response, Gary says that to clean the camera, he would first need to disassemble the camera housing mounted inside the windshield.
Gary writes…
“The camera housing won’t stay clipped on the right side; obviously, it needs a repair or replacement.
Why would I disassemble and repair a warranty issue on a new vehicle?”
Another Cybertruck owner, Pratik P, states that Tesla deserves praise rather than criticism for how the EV manufacturer is handling Gary’s case.
Pratik says that when his Mercedes GLE had a camera issue, the German automaker told him he needed to pay $3,000 for a camera replacement.
However, Tesla is willing to clean the camera in Gary’s Cybertruck for free, which means even though the Tesla service will take more than a month, the EV manufacturer still deserves praise compared to Mercedes.
Pratik writes…
“At least Tesla is doing something. Mercedes told me to replace the camera for $3k on my GLE.”
This is definitely an interesting perspective; however, please let me know what you think in the comments.
