Mercedes-Benz
- Mercedes-Benz showed the interior of the upcoming GLC-class EV, which features a humongous screen spanning the dashboard.
- According to Mercedes, the setup is a new version of the brand’s Hyperscreen, and it measures 39.1 inches from pillar to pillar.
- As with other new Mercedes EVs, the official name, the Mercedes-Benz GLC with EQ Technology, is a bit of a mouthful.
Electric vehicles, for better or worse, continue to compete in several different arms races of sorts. There’s the fight for the highest horsepower figure, the fight for the quickest zero-to-60 time, and, for some reason, the fight for the most screen real estate. Mercedes-BenzMercedes just upped the ante for the rest of the field with the newest version of its Hyperscreen, which makes its debut in the new GLC EV. The screen, which spans from A-pillar to A-pillar, measures a gargantuan 39.1 inches across. Unsurprisingly, that makes it the largest display Mercedes has ever put into a production car. According to Merc, it’s not just an oversized screen, but it’s an incredibly powerful one, too. The screen itself is backlit by more than 1000 individual LEDs and can be dimmed in individual zones, letting users create distinct display areas. Mercedes-BenzMercedes-BenzThe images also make it clear that Mercedes didn’t just take the gas-powered GLC and change the powertrain. The whole interior looks new. The doors sport new, curvier seat adjuster switches, and the dashboard blends directly into the center console. The dash itself is flanked by two circular air vents, with two more rectangular vents positioned centrally. The center console now has a cubby with room for two wireless phone chargers, a small row of buttons, a volume control wheel, and two cupholders. ➡️ Skip the lot.
