Overview The Taycan proves that Porsche can build an electric sedan that delivers the behind-the-wheel magic that the marque is known for. Despite its four-door form and two-and-a-half-ton mass, the Taycan is a certified stunner on twisty tarmac and a missile between stoplights. Even the base rear-wheel drive model has enough gusto to thrill, while the top, 1019-hp, all-wheel drive Turbo GT achieves unfathomable acceleration: it’s the first vehicle of any kind to reach 60 mph in under two seconds in our instrumented testing. The Taycan doesn’t fall short on luxury, either, with an elegant interior that can be fitted with a wide array of personalization options to suit your taste. One of its only drawbacks is limited cargo space, which Porsche has addressed by offering a station wagon variant called the Taycan Cross Turismo that we review separately. What’s New for 2026?The Taycan receives updates to its infotainment suite for 2026. While it keeps its central 10.9-inch dash-mounted display, it now responds faster than before thanks to some behind-the-scenes hardware upgrades. Third-party software can now be downloaded directly to the display through a built-in app center, and Porsche’s Voice Pilot assistant gains Amazon Alexa support. Both of the Taycan’s optional sound systems have also been upgraded with Dolby Atmos surround sound for a more immersive listening experience. Pricing and Which One to BuyThe price of the 2026 Porsche Taycan starts at $102,550 and goes up to $233,350 depending on the trim and options.Taycan$102,5504$106,4504S$121,650GTS$151,050Turbo$177,250Turbo S$212,150Turbo GT$233,350While the Taycan Turbo and Turbo S offer performance that’s on par with supercars, we’d recommend the more affordable all-wheel-drive Taycan 4S. This dual-motor model provides all-wheel-drive traction and more horsepower than the base rear-drive Taycan. Porsche provides countless ways to customize your Taycan, including a seemingly endless palette of exterior colors through the Paint to Sample program. We’ll leave the personalization up to you, but we do recommend the available Performance package, which adds rear-axle steering, torque vectoring, and active anti-roll bars.Getting Started with EVsEV Motor, Power, and PerformanceExcept for the base model, which is powered by a single rear-mounted electric motor, all other Taycan models feature dual electric motors, with one powering the front wheels and the other powering the rears. Base model Taycans and Taycan 4 models make between 402 and 429 horsepower, the 4S makes 536 ponies, the GTS pumps out 690, and the Turbo S makes up to 938 horsepower for short periods—but that requires using the car’s launch-control feature. Without launch control engaged, the electric motors combine for a still-impressive 764 horsepower. The new top-dog Turbo GT model offers a mind-blowing 1019 horsepower when using the launch-control feature and 777 ponies in normal driving. All Taycan models also have a two-speed direct-drive transmission that plays a pivotal role in both the Taycan’s rapid acceleration and excellent range. An air-spring suspension system is standard and all-wheel-drive models can be had with adaptive dampers. The Taycan’s low-slung driving position, talkative steering, and precise handling make it special among electric vehicles. And it’s comfortable too. In our test of a 2025 model, we were particularly impressed with the optional Porsche Active Ride active-suspension option, which limits body roll and does a great job filtering out road imperfections.0–60-MPH TimesA base rear-wheel-drive Taycan hit 60 mph in 4.1 seconds at our test track, and we estimate that the Turbo S will do the deed in as little as 2.1 seconds. We’ve driven the pre-facelift Taycan 4S and were impressed by its prompt performance. That car hit 60 mph in 3.4 seconds, and the 2026 model should be slightly quicker still. Those with a serious need for speed will be blown away by the Turbo S’s rocket-ship takeoffs. The last one we tested hit 60 mph in just 2.4 ticks, but it had a mere 750 horsepower. We can’t wait to see what the latest Turbo S will do with 938. The top-dog Turbo GT is the quickest though, and got to 60 mph in just 1.9 seconds when we tested it last year; that makes it the quickest production car we’ve ever tested. What’s more, the model we sampled wasn’t even equipped with the optional Weissach package that saves a claimed 165 pounds, so that version of the Taycan could be quicker still.More on the Taycan SedanRange, Charging, and Battery LifeNeither Porsche nor the EPA have released range estimates for the 2026 Taycan yet, but without any significant changes to its battery pack options or EV powertrain, it should produce similar results to last year’s model. For 2025, the EPA estimated that the Taycan could travel between 252 and 318 miles on a single charge, depending on the trim and battery selection. That is less than rivals such as the Lucid Air and the Tesla Model S, both of which can crest 400 miles on a charge. When we drove a prototype of the 2025 Taycan, we were able to travel 313 miles with 8 percent battery left. Equipped with the $5,780 Performance Battery Plus option, the Taycan can be charged on a DC connection at up to 320 kilowatts. Porsche says that in ideal conditions, the battery can charge from 10 to 80 percent in just 18 minutes.Fuel Economy and Real-World MPGeThe EPA hasn’t yet given any ratings for the 2026 Taycan, but last year’s most efficient Taycan 4S model managed 93 MPGe. The base rear-wheel-drive Taycan yielded a slightly less impressive combined result of 91 MPGe, and the powerful Turbo S received the lowest fuel economy rating of the standard Taycan lineup with a 79 MPGe combined estimate. MPGe stands for miles per gallon of gas equivalent, an EPA metric that estimates PHEV and EV vehicle fuel efficiency. When we get a chance, we’ll take the Taycan on our 75-mph highway fuel economy route and update this story with real-world test results. For more information about the Taycan’s fuel economy, visit the EPA’s website.Interior, Comfort, and CargoInside the sleek-looking Taycan, the interior design is simple and recalls what we’ve seen in other Porsche models. As expected, the cabin seats and interior panels can be covered in a range of rich materials and color schemes. There’s a long list of luxury options, including four-zone climate control, massaging front seats, and heated rear seats. The Taycan comes standard with seating for four, but there’s an option to add a third, middle spot in the back seat—though three across will be a squeeze. We found the electrified Porsche’s rear accommodations and storage space to be a bit lacking, and contortions are required to get into the low front seats. From behind the wheel, though, the view out is excellent. The Car and Driver DifferenceInfotainment and ConnectivityThere’s no shortage of screens inside the Taycan, but there is a shortage of physical buttons and knobs. Along with a curved 16.8-inch display for the gauges, two centrally located touchscreens control the infotainment system. The upper one is integrated into the dash and measures 10.9 inches. It provides access to important functions and is now faster than before thanks to updates to its computing hardware. Software can be downloaded through a new app center, and smart-home and in-car systems can now be controlled with voice commands via Amazon Alexa. The lower 8.4-inch touchscreen enables users to adjust climate settings, check the battery status, input navigation details, interact with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto features, and open and close the trunks and charge ports. Another 10.9-inch touchscreen is available for the front-seat passenger, and there’s an optional 5.9-inch touchscreen in the back seat that controls the rear HVAC and seat heating. The Taycan’s optional Bose and Burmester sound systems now offer Dolby Atmos surround sound to elevate the in-car listening experience even further. How to Buy and Maintain a CarSafety and Driver-Assistance FeaturesEvery Taycan is equipped with standard driver-assistance technology that includes forward-collision warning and automated emergency braking, as well as lane-departure warning and lane-keeping assist. Of course, Porsche also offers more advanced tech for a price. For information about the Taycan’s crash test results, visit the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). Key safety features include:
- Standard automated emergency braking with pedestrian detection
- Standard lane-departure warning with lane-keeping assist
- Available adaptive cruise control with a lane-centering feature
Warranty and Maintenance CoveragePorsche provides a competitive warranty plan that’s comparable with what other luxury EV makers offer. However, coverage of the Taycan’s electrical components is capped at eight years or 100,000 miles, whereas Tesla offers unlimited mileage for the same amount of time.
- Limited warranty covers four years or 50,000 miles
- Powertrain warranty covers eight years or 100,000 miles
