Overview Mid-size SUVs don’t have to look boring, and the 2026 Nissan Murano wears a bold wardrobe that proves that point. Too bad its average road manners don’t add anything exciting to the equation. A turbocharged four-cylinder provides adequate power, and the chassis is tuned to deliver a seamless ride, but the Murano’s handling is forgettable. Perhaps buyers of this type of near-luxury crossover don’t mind its lack of athleticism, but we sure do. The interior is deluxe though, even in the base SV trim, and Nissan has littered the cabin with all the expected tech and convenience features, too. As an SUV, it’s plenty practical, with a generously sized cargo bay and enough room for four adults to find comfort on long drives. What’s New for 2026?Completely redesigned just last year, the Murano should receive few updates for the 2026 model year.Pricing and Which One to BuyThe price of the 2026 Nissan Murano is expected to start around $42,000 and go up to $51,000 depending on the trim and options.SV$42,000 (est)SL$48,000 (est)Platinum$51,000 (est)Of the SV, SL, and Platinum trims, the mid-range SL is the one to get. It adds nice-to-have features such as heated exterior mirrors, a panoramic sunroof, tinted windows, memory settings for the driver’s seat, a 10-speaker Bose stereo, in-dash navigation, an auto-dimming rear-view mirror, an integrated garage door opener, a 360-degree exterior camera system, and ambient interior lighting.Engine, Transmission, and PerformanceAll Muranos come with a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that makes 241 horsepower. A nine-speed automatic transmission is also standard, as is front-wheel drive. All-wheel drive is available as an option on the SV and comes standard on the SL and Platinum trims. During our initial test drive of the new Murano, we found it to offer considerably better handling than the old model, with more precise steering and a planted feel. The combination of the turbo-four engine and the nine-speed automatic transmission isn’t overtly sporty, but it’s responsive and we far prefer it to the continuously variable automatic transmission in the previous Murano.0–60-MPH TimesWe estimate that the Murano will get to 60 mph in between 8.0 and 8.3 seconds. When we get the chance to test one for ourselves, we’ll update this section with the results.More on the Murano SUVTowing and Payload Capacity The Murano’s towing capacity is a modest 1500 pounds. That’s far less than what rival SUVs such as the Honda Passport and the Hyundai Santa Fe can pull.Fuel Economy and Real-World MPGThe EPA hasn’t released any fuel economy information for the 2026 Murano yet, but the 2025 model earned ratings of 21 mpg city, 27 mpg highway, and 23 mpg combined. When we get a chance, we’ll take the Murano on our highway fuel economy route and update this story with real-world test results. For more information about the Murano’s fuel economy, visit the EPA’s website.Interior, Comfort, and CargoA comfy, two-row cabin awaits you inside the Murano, and the interior styling is similar to electric Ariya crossover’s. A color-shifting, textured dashboard trim adds some visual pizzazz while a touch-sensitive panel integrated into a wood trim piece serves up climate controls. Platinum trim models add several high-end features, including semi-aniline leather upholstery and massaging front seats. Speaking of seats, both the front and rear ones feature Nissan’s Zero Gravity design, which we’ve found quite comfortable on long drives in other models. All models come with a power liftgate to access the cargo area, which is a generous 33 cubic feet with the rear seats up and 64 cubic feet with the rear seats folded. The Car and Driver DifferenceInfotainment and ConnectivityA pair of 12.3-inch color displays serve as infotainment and gauge cluster inside the Murano’s interior. Nissan’s Google-based infotainment software is offered on the higher trim levels. All trims come with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, but SL and Platinum models come with in-dash navigation courtesy of Google Maps. Active sound cancellation, a wireless smartphone charging pad, SiriusXM satellite radio, four USB-C ports, and a six-speaker stereo are standard, but SL and Platinum models come with a 10-speaker Bose stereo, Amazon’s Alexa voice assistant, and an in-car wi-fi hotspot. How to Buy and Maintain a CarSafety and Driver-Assistance FeaturesA suite of driver-assistance tech is standard across the Murano lineup, including lane-keeping assist, adaptive cruise control, and blind-spot monitoring. SL and Platinum trims get a more advanced version of Nissan’s ProPilot hands-free driving tech which uses navigation data to slow the Murano slightly to prepare for a curve in the road. For more information about the Murano’s crash-test results, visit the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) websites. Key safety features include:
- Standard automated emergency braking with pedestrian detection
- Standard lane-departure warning with lane-keeping assist
- Standard adaptive cruise control with a hands-free driving mode
Warranty and Maintenance CoverageNothing about the Murano’s standard warranty package is noteworthy. Rivals in this segment all offer longer roadside assistance plans, while the Santa Fe and the Kia Sorento beat the Nissan with a nontransferable 10-year or 100,000-mile powertrain policy.
- Limited warranty covers 3 years or 36,000 miles
- Powertrain warranty covers 5 years or 60,000 miles
- Complimentary maintenance is covered for 2 years of 24,000 miles
