- The 2026 Dodge Durango R/T and 2026 Durango Hellcat will not be sold in all 50 states, as originally reported by The Drive.
- Those two V-8-powered models won’t be available in the 17 states that follow the CARB emissions standards.
- The Durango GT, which now comes with the 5.7-liter Hemi V-8, will be available nationwide.
As Dodge re-embraces the V-8, the iconic Hemi motor has proliferated across the Durango lineup for 2026. The base Durango GT no longer packs a 295-hp V-6, instead swapping in the 360-hp 5.7-liter eight-cylinder engine. The R/T, meanwhile, upgrades to the 6.4-liter 392 Hemi V-8, while the Hellcat returns atop the range. But now reports have emerged that not all of these V-8-powered Durangos will be available everywhere in the United States. The Durango R/T and Hellcat will not be sold in states that follow the California Air Resources Board (CARB) emissions regulations, a Dodge spokesperson confirmed to Car and Driver. This means these high-powered SUVs won’t be available in the following 17 states: California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, Virginia, and Washington.Dodge”As we prepare to begin production of the Durango SRT Hellcat Jailbreak later in Q4 and open for orders of the Durango R/T 392 by the end of the year, we continue to work with CARB on opportunities to sell these two powertrains in all states alongside the 5.7-liter Durango GT,” a Dodge spokesperson said.➡️ Skip the lot. The 6.4-liter 392 Hemi and 6.2-liter Hellcat engines don’t currently meet CARB’s emissions standards, so they would have required extra modifications to be legal in those states. Instead of doling out the cash to adapt the V-8 engines, Dodge is deciding to just limit the states in which it sells its most potent Durangos. The 5.7-liter engine, however, is good to go in CARB states, meaning Dodge will still be able to sell the base 2026 Durango GT in the entire country. The 2026 Durango GT and Durango Hellcat are available to order now and will reach dealerships in the fourth quarter of this year, while order books for the R/T will open later. Prices for the 2026 Durango GT start at $44,490, a $4000 increase over 2025, while the Durango R/T’s price tag of $51,990 is unchanged from 2025. The 2026 Durango Hellcat requires $81,990, which is actually a $5000 discount versus last year.More on the Durango
