- The 2025 Jeep Wagoneer Overland Special Edition turns the gigantic three-row SUV into a better off-roader.
- The Overland has standard steel skid plates, an electronic limited-slip rear differential, and a two-speed transfer case.
- It also has 32-inch all-terrain tires and a 360-degree camera system; Jeep says only 2000 units will be built, with each starting at $74,835.
The Jeep brand is commonly associated with off-roading, but not all of Jeep’s models are well-suited to tackling trails from the factory. The Wagoneer, for example, with its glitzy chrome trim and humungous footprint, is more focused on ferrying VIPs from black-tie events. But Jeep is mixing things up with the 2025 Jeep Wagoneer Overland Special Edition, showing off the new SUV at the New York auto show and the Easter Jeep Safari in Moab, Utah.JeepJeep calls the Overland edition the “most capable Wagoneer in the lineup” and has equipped it with standard hardware to help the gigantic SUV get off the beaten path. The 20-inch aluminum wheels are shod with 32-inch all-terrain tires, while the Quadra-Drive II four-wheel-drive system—usually reserved for the Wagoneer Series III trim—features an electronic limited-slip differential and a two-speed transfer case. This allows the Wagoneer to send up to 100 percent of power to either axle, depending on where the SUV needs more traction. The transfer case allows for a low range with a 48:1 crawl ratio, and there is a new Rock mode for handling particularly challenging terrain. The air suspension can lift the SUV up to 10 inches off the ground, just like on other Wagoneers. A trio of skid plates underneath the Wagoneer shield the front axle, transfer case, and fuel tank from dangerous rocks and other obstacles. JeepThere’s also a version of hill-descent control, which Jeep calls Selec-Speed Control, but it works to control the SUV’s speed while going downhill or climbing up a slope. A 360-degree camera system also lets the driver scout out which bits of trail to avoid, while two front tow hooks and a removable rear tow hook are there in case you get stuck. Lastly, the Overland Special Edition comes fitted with the Heavy Duty Trailer Tow package with trailer brake control, allowing the Wagoneer to pull up to 10,000 pounds. The Overland Special Edition is based on the Series II trim and features Nappa leather seats, all-weather floor mats, a panoramic sunroof, three-zone climate control, and power-folding side mirrors. There are also plenty of driver-assistance features, optional eight-passenger seating, and black exterior trim, including a black-painted roof. Jeep plans to build just 2000 units of the Waggoner Overland Special Edition. Pricing starts at $74,835, making the Wagoneer Overland nearly $9000 more than a normal Wagoneer Series II.More on Jeep Off-RoadersCaleb Miller began blogging about cars at 13 years old, and he realized his dream of writing for a car magazine after graduating from Carnegie Mellon University and joining the Car and Driver team.
